Tent trailer options for 2012 Rubicon

So we are looking for semi-civilized "dormitory space" for our three grown kids when they come along with us in our 2500 Ram/Hawk combo. BUT the plot thickens since we also want to be able to occasionally tow this tent trailer with our two door Rubicon (3.73 ratio) which is rated for 2,000# towing.

I know we can go the "adventure trailer" route but these seem a bit small/spartan for three adults. And even when we pull the trailer with the Rubicon we would drop it and explore further with just the jeep.

So with a bit of googling I stumbled across the Quicksilver 8.1 all aluminum trailer (865# dry) which can be ordered with a (very mild) "Off Road Package". (We're mostly talking national forest dirt roads for this type of trailer.) Does anyone have any experience with this company or model? Or are there any other options out there? All suggestions welcomed.

You could build one yourself. Here's my build thread: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/128420-Two-RTT-Trailer?p=1713799#post1713799

I've got about $5000 all in on my trailer and about 100 hours of work. Most of the money is in the components. The actual bones of the trailer are about $1500. That's the frame, new axle with brakes, and the wood. I just towed it all over Death Valley and it did well.

Fully loaded it weighs about 1800 lbs.

I have the Jeep branded version of the quicksilver. I tow with a 2012 JK. I barely notice the trailer when towing. Mine is the equivalent of the 6.0 but I don't think the extra weight of the 8.0 would be an issue. We have towed the trailer through miles of forrest roads and drivable trails without issue. If they are still using the Dexter torsion axle, Dexter makes a nice bolt on 2.5 inch lift that can get you a bit more clearance. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1417378709.558319.jpg

What did the Quicksilver cost if you don't mind me asking. I like that platform a lot, it looks to be a great rig.

Dave's trailer is a nice option!

We have a Manley trailer & have had a great experience with the product & Josh the owner. Doesn't feel like you're towing anything, tracks well & handles the rough stuff.

Manley has a Basecamp version that might fit your needs. Based on our experience we'd have to suggest you at least check it out. Lots of options, etc.

Good luck with the hunt.

Another option to consider would be a Lifetime Tent Trailer, which is right around 800lb. for the better, older version and has 2 queen-size beds plus room for cots or a queen size air mattress on the floor. The newer Lifetime Tent Trailer is smaller and lighter, but still a good choice. The Jumping Jack trailer is another similar option. Here's my LTT with a few easy mods (fenders over bigger tires):

I'm liking the Manley more and more - for the price it looks like a great option - just need to finish up my other projects. I really want to see a fridge in one with a tongue box for the electrical system. An ARB 63 looks like it will fit on a slide with the hard top.
Hopefully they can make an extended top like the chaser for them.

here's a link to TCT Shane's Manley trailer with Basecamp setup. there are some pics of the tent setup and he has links to from this thread to some different mods/possibilities.

Josh @ Manley is a good guy and easy to work with. give him a growl to see whats possible.

I have a Manley too and absolutely love it. You can't ask for a better company or owner to deal with. Josh Manly and his trailers are top notch!!!!
