CXT

I'm digging the tread Frank, I'd like to see them in person. Of course I need another set of tires like more holes...

315s are fine. :)

That Courser CXT would be a very interesting tire. I almost wish I hadn't just purchased my KM2s now. I love the ride of the more compliant sidewall, but the KM2s are much noisier than I expected. My brand new KM2s are actually louder than my Cooper STTs were with 30,000 miles on them.

Hi James,

.

Agreed ! Just the right balance between an AT and a MT ;-)

.

LOL ! Thanks for the reassurance about the 315s :D

.

Hey ! If you weren't testing *all* the tires for us, how would we know the good ones ? ? ? :)

.

Be well ! ! !

Well Jim, what you wrote was true, or is always true...and your timing quite good. Some hints here now, but I must save the details.

Firstly, I'm making yet another run at reviving my neglected blog. Printed magazine work is still my pressing priority, but I've got some things planned exclusively for RoadTraveler.net. This week I posted two older (2014-15) Turbo Diesel Register (TDR) article PDFs to start the revival, and there will be more.

Many (most?) of my past blog posts were about tires, that's not all I write about, and the TDR articles are already diversifying the content. However...

Last week I purchased yet another set of take-off wheels and a new set of rubber has been ordered. It will be weeks before the tires arrive, I get them photographed, measured, mounted, and log just a few miles before I write my first look article for RoadTraveler.net. If you are reading this thread you will probably like the subject. ;)

I may share a link somewhere here on ExPo, but if you want to be sure not to miss it, subscribe to my blog. My small, humble site welcomes more readers.

James

Long term update 255/85R16 BFG KM2 Warning!

Two separated and they were replaced. Shortly after the other two separated with one catostophic blowout. I was told there was a defect on early KM2. The Internet forums confirmed the myth. This week, two of the new ones separated again.

See how the tread is raised or bubbled up. That's separation. Feels like an out of balanced tire but not bad so look over your tires if they feel bouncy or out of balance.

E tires are made hard and strong. Repeted flexing of the hard rubber and thick cords when aired down breaks them internally under the 1 ton E350 4x4. These are my tenth tire. Note how flat across the tread the new ones are. They put the new ones on the rear and it drives a little funny with the older two on front. My bet is I'll be in for tires eleven and twelve by the end of summer because they are not as flat across as the new ones.

What are the date codes on the failed tires, Stump?

What you experienced has been a common problem with heavy rigs on KM2's. The KM2 just cant hang.

Dang, if I had seen that a few weeks ago I would not have purchased the KM2s. Hopefully the issues are all solved. My Jeep is light, but I also run tires with lower psi due to the light jeep.
