Another small update. I might take more pics in a bit, or not...

Got the rear section all levelled, squared, welded... Other than there is no fishplates on it yet, those will come in time. I need to buy some flatbar for that. I also need to buy some 1.5x.500 cold rolled to make recovery points before I can do much more in the rear (they will go outside the frame and through the bumper).

This is getting insane! Youre an incredibly good fabricator from what I can see, not that you need my approval or anything. But incredible. Keep it up.

Got the one corner tacked in place...

The hole is for the aforementioned flat bar for a recovery point, I decided I would be able to add it in later. The sheetmetal work isn't done under the tail-light, I'll get a picture of that whenever I do it.

Basically, I wanted a slim rear bumper, not some 'ghetto booty' thang. Hopefully it comes out how I wanted.

(And the picture looks like MMMM because of the smoke in the shop)

Nice work for sure... heck of a project! MORE PICTURES... :victory:

Are you on NAXJA? I am sure this would fit very well in the "advanced fabrication" section.

X2 They would love this thing over there. Maybe not as much as the Xota but pretty close! :sombrero:

They might, they might not. NAXJA and I had a falling out, or at least that's what I'd consider it, over when they decided to make adfab/engineering a paying members only sub-forum. I considered it to be a very short-sighted move on their part. And some ******** called me something along the lines of a 'theif' for using their forum without a paying membership, and went on to list how I wasn't helping them prevent land closures and didn't care about the sport, etc etc... I had something along the lines of 100 posts at that point, and most of them were helping other people, NOT my own questions/problems.

So yeah, I'm all for paying for a membership if the forum gives me a decent vibe, but that was that for NAXJA. BTW, their adfab/engineering forum totally went to hell after they changed the rules on it.

Most likely it was someone from the SoCal chapter. I could understand them being mad if you had as many posts over there as i have but 100 posts shouldn't be that big of a deal. There are a lot of pricks on there for sure but there are also a lot of good dudes on there too. The guy in the Adfab that did the horrible front "frame" thing should be shot though!:D

I know there's good and bad regardless of where you go. But they just rubbed me wrong. I can fit in fine at pirate - I've got thick skin and don't have a problem with a little criticism and name calling. Actually, I think it helps keep the forum 'clean', but that's my take on it, not that I feel every forum should be like that.

He posted on pirate too - I only realized it was on NAXJA adfab after reading the thread on pirate. He managed to avoid a lot of heat on pirate for a long time - it's a much softer forum than it was before. Eventually it caught up to him, but he kept the thread going there and actually followed SOME of the advice he was given. However, it's still horrible, and honestly should be on some hill-billy inbreeding forum, not a 4x4 forum. (I had to see what the NAXJA comments were after reading the pirate thread, only reason I've visited the site recently)

Yeah that dude was an idiot! I can see it failing the first time out! I'm on pirate too. Those guys can get pretty mean when people get ripped off, like showing up at their houses and what not!

So, trying to make some tire/wheel decisions...

I want to run H1 double beadlocks... They're priced decently, are easily enough broken down if one need to patch a tire, and I think they look about as classy as I need. Oh, and the double beadlock thing is a plus. But they're 16.5" rims.

Nothing reasonably suited to me seems to be available in a 16.5". I wanted to either get a set of new MT/Rs or Toyo Opencounty M/Ts. They're both out of the question with a 16.5". Pretty much the only compromise I can think of is trxus M/Ts. I don't know if I will be happy with their on-road performance. Durr.

Not sure if I should just consider different rims... Or what.

I have TruXus MTs on my XJ and honestly cant wait until they wear out. I hate them (on road and offroad). I have seen more and more tires available in 16.5, but the pickings are still slim.

I had a set of Cooper STT's on my yota that I LOVED, and will be getting another set when these finally are done. Not sure if they make them in a 16.5 size, but??

I appreciate the feedback. Honestly, I've only ever run two types of tires on my rigs (other than my pavement pounders) - BFG M/Ts (KM style) and Goodyear MT/Rs (not the new style). But I've ridden in or wheeled with people that had everything from red label Krawlers to XMLs. I know how tires perform offroad, but on I get pretty confused beyond what I obviously noticed as a passenger (jeeze, boggers suck in the rain, who'd have thought?).

Anyways, I'm going to ditch the H1 idea. There isn't anything in a 16.5" rim other than interco's stuff, and surplus H1 tires. Gonna buy some stazworks, I think. They look alright, priced pretty good, and can be had in a 16" or 17" (plus 15", 20" and 22", but I don't care about those sizes).
