ooopps yep pushing instead of sucking !

its funny how little things can cause major issues..

my Gran cherokee had multiple electrical failures stall and cutouts and then finally a head cook and a bent valve just due to the fan clutch going and no one noticing( including me)

Graham,

Any guy who is willing to admit to a mistake like that is a good guy in my book. Thanks for sharing!

I have to say that the fan issue was a bear to solve. Even though it was staring me in the face the whole time, it took forever to locate. Not something you'd expect. But now that the fan is sucking instead of blowing, the truck is awesome! No overheating trouble, even in the slightest. Weather in the high 90s, in stop-and-go Denver traffic, and the temp is rock solid.

So we took her out to do some trail scouting:

So now I have Roseann's 60 in my sights. Currently getting 22mpg. Ready for some tweaking to beat her to 30. :coffee:

Would be more than happy to help. Sadly I can't be there in the flesh as there is a small stretch of water in the way, but feel free to throw any ideas at me. Even seperating the urban legends from the facts would give you a decent head start.

O' so the mileage thing is a competition! I wasn't aware!

Good to see the RR up and running again...what a great rig!

So, we are not all that clever?

THANK-YOU THANK-YOU THANK-YOU.

One cylinder head skim, gasket and blar. One new (2nd-hand head) gasket and Blar. One complete engine re-build (Fried) New bores rings Blah.

And still she runs too hot!

Just read your thread and now I know why!

Kenya I guess is a bit more expensive on parts so this little fan oversight has cost me a few thousand USD.

Happy to have it fixed, sad I was so non seeing, pleased I read your thread, Abeer and then the spanners come out:wings:

Glad to help! It is unfortunate that Land Rover made the 300 fan and the 2.5 NA fan identical except for the pitch of the blades! It cost me 2 heads, 3 gaskets, a fan clutch, a lot of coolant and hours of frustration. For such a simple yet hard to identify problem.

A few more additions to the RR:

Ramsey Patriot 9500 UT winch
RoverTracks hawse fairlead
Viking Offroad synthetic winch line
LightForce 140 Lance lights

Looks pretty cool now IMO:

And still no over heating even with all the new stuff on the front. :wings:

Just out of interest, how much would a 300Tdi, correct auto box and ALL the ancilleries to fit it (ie a whole 300Tdi RRC) be worth in the US

I was thinking along the lines of a UK vehicle that had failed it's MOT on the usual rot but had a low mileage engine and box...

That's a tough one.

Figuring that the vehicle is worth nothing, It would likely be best if it was cut in half and sold as such (not worth shipping the rear half. The Engine and bits would normally turn up here in a crate and usually go for $4000-$5000 (open market) depending on condition and milage. It would be nice to have "all" the components involved with the conversion that 1/2 a car would give you but would it be worth the extra freight? Probably not.

It might be worth more to simply pull everything required from the vehicle and put it in a crate. as a Complete "kit" coming from a Rangie one could charge a bit of a premium. On the other hand late 94 and 1995 RRC's had 300's right? If that's the case the components woudl be very much the same as a similar year Disco so that might take some of the polish off the package, having the diesel gauge pod would certainly thrill some folks.

If it where me I would put it out there as a complete truck ready to be dismantled for all the parts needed for the conversion and see what comes of it. Push the fact that it is for a Late model RRC which is very desireable for the enthusiasts over here, especially the LWB.

Wish I had the $$ and time...

Interesting.

It's a '93 Vogue SEi with a factory conversion to 300Tdi fitted in '98 - new engine, new tranny, T box, diffs, etc. The air suspension is recent as are loads of bits and bobs like ABS pump and suspension sensors.

The rot isn't too bad but is UK uneconomical - I can pick up a FSH low mileage 200Tdi RRC with a manual box for $2,500 or less that's tidy. The reason for this hi-jack (and my apologies for it) is interest. The RRC in question is an old one of mine and the friend who now owns it is happier to see it (or parts of it) used AND only cover his costs (say $2000)...

Just thinking/pondering aloud

Hey Graham,

I know you guys are using this rig for overland training. I'm assuming the Patriot is getting some good use? How has it been working out? I've been interested to follow this system since the review came out and see if you guys at OJ still felt the same way.

Cheers.

Blake,

I'm not sure which Patriot you are referring to, but we don't have one at Overland Training, and haven't been using one for the past couple of years. Scott did some Patriot testing for Chrysler several years ago. Was that it?

cheers
