Just read through this thread. Fantastic build. I'm truely impressed. As a woodworker by trade, I must say, you guys have done a magnificent job, I have no critique, other than... Well done.

Before you all leave thinking the trailer is perfection personified, we did make a few mistakes on the build and I just went through and amended posts #228 and 237. If you need a good laugh go back and reread them. Old man brain conveniently forgets stuff that is worth writing about until its nearly too late.

If you have never built something of this magnitude, you would not know what it really takes. When you build something that you did not go off of plans that have all of the measurements, mistakes are going to be made. I applaud your willingness to be different from every other teardrop out there. But then again, that's what makes building a teardrop so much fun.
When you look at the absolute perfection of Gabe's So Cal Teardrops, you must remember that they have built hundreds of their trailers, everything is done CNC and that's what they do for a living. Perfection ensues!
I for one, am not going to admit to all of my mistakes with my cargo conversion. As far as you know.........I didn't make any:coffeedrink:
I just wish you didn't live so far away. I would like to share a beverage with you and check out your craftsmanship.

Good job. Remember, it's really never done, is it?

Nope, we just figured if we could rebuild a farmhouse and a classic car we could build a new trailer! And I do admit mistakes were made on all three, but you won't know exactly how many!

Never done! AAaaah! No, really, never done, not the farmhouse, or the car, or the truck or the teardrop.

And if you ever get this side of town, drop on by. Someday, we will make it out to Cali, I'd be happy to fit you in to my travel schedule......

looking at the photo with your truck, it appears larger than I thought. Still a work of art man, no matter how big it is.

Well, big is relative. At it's widest point it is no wider than the fender flares on the truck. It's only big because it is 12" taller than a normal 5x10 teardrop due to the basement storage. That extra height makes it look huge though.

It's also a little matter of perspective.

Looks big

Looks little

awesome build, I think the most awesome part of it is that you and your wife were able to do it together.
It is not often that our wives take interest in projects we are working on.
Besides the memories you make using the trailer you'll also have the memories of building the trailer.

Hey Jim - Jeez sorry to hear about the water damage brother. Sounds like you guys took care of it. We just got back our florida vacation and I forgot to tarp over the my trailer.
I do not trust the seals on my sideboxes as they failed the hose test. At rest they have been pretty dry but I bet on the road in a downpour they will leak. Anyway, I've been lazy
about reserving for the wiffleball/paddling extravaganza but I'll do so shortly. Give a big wassup to Beth for us and we'll see you guys soon. Ed

The Teardrop Year

This is the coolest birthday present ever! My lovely wife, Elizabeth, authored, edited and self-published a book spanning our entire process of building the CrowsWing! My copy is signed by the author and I will cherish it forever!

Wow, that is an amazing book! I previewed the first 50 pages or so. I kinda expected just a recap of your photos, but it is so much more! I loved the humor and wit she put into it, and charts, graphs, etc. that chronicles the thought process behind the design. The full evolution of camping. I guess I should not be too surprised based on the quality of the build, but that book should be carried by outlets like AT and SoCalTeardrop (people will see the amount of work you put into this and either be inspired to pull out their wallet on the spot or pick up a new sander). At the very least, you should keep copies on hand whenever you travel, and when people ask for your story, show them the book.

You're extremely well married.
