The DiscoDavis Discovery 3 Build Thread

I think it's good how we all feed off each other's builds. I tend to follow a well worn path on the Internet and this forum is the one I've found for D3/D4 inspiration in North America-D3.uk, AULRO and such are all excellent but the diesel availability makes me jealous!
Absolutely. Expo has been the go-to for me after the technical info and repair tips available on more specific forums, D3uk/LRforum specifically :). The community has to be my favorite part of ownership. I lost count how many great ideas I see fleshed out, and I definitely benefit from others trying certain things and saying "this works" or "that doesn't work". Hope I give back more information than I've taken.

Wow....those window vents....
I know they make some for jeeps :ylsmoke:

Tell me more, tell me more...

Can you tell me about the wind noise at different speeds for the snorkel?

Thank you very much,

Ian

Ian, I cannot completely answer this since I have a roof rack fitted. What I will say is that it makes no more noise than the rack already creates. I noticed zero difference in wind noise after adding the snorkel. At 75mph/120kph the wind noise from both is very noticeable but I am not overly bothered. If you already have a roof rack I would not be concerned about more noise... ;)

Little short on updates y'all. Been busy at work. Disco has been driving well, I let up on the aggressive maintenance schedule for a bit to do taxes and plan vacation after this next job. Starts up and runs with no complaints, still gets me to and from work every day. New jobsite is only a 50 mile round trip instead of the 100 per day she usually does. She'll probably get another oil change and tires rotated next week. Still waiting on the diff work up front.

The Nakatenga vents I started leaving on the truck 24/7. I appreciate that it helps the truck breathe in the heat, since she lives outside all the time. In the morning, yup it is chilly for a few minutes (~6C), but the heaters overpower any cold air ingress, even when I get on the freeway @ 70mph. Still makes noise but I don't mind it as much.

Really eyeing some sliders right now, it would make lifting the truck that much easier with the hilift :)

OH and I missed it by 4 miles...

Just ordered up a pair for myself from 4x4overlander in the UK. Brendan & Barbara are nice folks to work with and they'll have them shipped out tomorrow. ended up being $90 with shipping to the US with tracking and insurance.

Davis,

Thank you for the response. I do not currently have a roof rack and have designs on a ProSpeed (in part for the low wind noise). We shall see what comes of it - they really need US distribution.

Cheers,

Ian

I really liked the Prospeed designs but with the shipping costs added to the standard roof rack price I went another direction.

I just e-mailed prospeed a couple weeks ago asking for a shipping quote on their compressor guard. Sadly, the guard itself was around 150 pounds, but the shipping was another 77 on top of that. Simply can't justify buying anything with what is essentially a 50% price bump due to shipping. :( Nice stuff though.

Economy of scale makes it better...well, no it doesn't...lust for the rack overcame the significant cost of shipping (be glad you are in the US, Abu Dhabi was ~200 GBP more!). I should have added on other things but I don't really need the compressor guard anymore so much of it was moot.
