The Goony Bird

Thats odd,, the neons that I have seen all had heat,, no fridge,, but the frigde would have to be so small if built in I'd rather a good fridge.. and The one I looked at had a sink also,, just the pump handle,, no pressure.. It be easy to add these things tho.. and if done right would be better than usually comes in pop-ups..

My Neon has heat, but I've never seen them offered with a sink. Are you sure you weren't looking at Cobalt?

I see, heat is an option.

They still show water storage and pump as N/A on the specs.

We may re-visit the Neon if there is a hitch with the AT trailer.

I agree on the Fridge. A Waco or Engal are on the list, that wasn't a deal breaker for us. It is nice to have the small one inside the trailer.

I did a couple of small things yesterday.
This screw would have saved me a lot of time in Death Valley, the awning kept sliding out on the wash board roads. (Yes that is snow, we got a couple of inches last night.)

The sink drain cap was missing the plastic retainer strap, $3 worth of hard ware to make this replacment.

Next I need to find one of these, the other side is broken.

We will pick up some new air mattresses at Cabellas tomorrow, they should be a lot better fit than the twins we have now.

That's one of the characteristics that attracted me to our Fleetwood Neon. The tires are outboard the trailer body and the track width is pretty much the same as my truck. Quite the sacrifice on interior space, but it comes in handy when getting through tight spots.

Does anyone make a Neon width trailer with a bed on each end? I like the narrow width and outboard wheels, but really need to sleep 5.

That would be a long skinny trailer

It would only be really long and skinny when it was open! That would be the perfect scenario for me, but I don't think it exists.

Unless it was designed so that the bed areas stacked the trailer would be as long as the two wings end to end when closed. So 12' min plus the tongue, around 15' or 16' long and 4' or 5' wide when closed.

What model/length Starcraft is that? Do you happen to know the empty weight?
Sorry it took so long to reply, we were in Death Valley.:arabia:

It is a 1702, almost the same as the 1701 with a little different floor plan. The box is 8'. Overall I think it's around 13' or 14' long.

Hanging out in Mina at the Sunset Valley RV park. Not ideal but full hook-ups so we can run the heater all night if we need to. And we may, it should get into the low 30's or high 20's tonight. Also wireless access, Duh.

We are so out of place here. There are a couple of other rigs, both high end coaches. We only saw them when they walked their lap dogs.
We cooked a pot roast in the dutch oven an enjoyed the sunset. I guess they watched TV????????????? We didn't take any pictures but the sunset on the Monte Cristo mountains was fantastic. Tomorrow we will either explore them of take a trip to the Silver Dyke Mine.

I wonder what the guys who play the market are doing?

Man your making me jealous. I had a Jayco 1207 that I pulled with my Rodeo for years. Cooked many a meal on the outside under the awning.:chowtime:
Your sure bringing back a lot of good memories.

I'm now one of those big Motor Coach Drivers with the Satellite TV in every room. But in my defense, I do have a slide out mig welder, air compressor and tool box in the basement of it. And some plywood to lay down on the ground while we work on our rock crawling rigs under the awning while eating ice cream. :wings:
Creepers don't roll well in the dirt I've found. :Mechanic:

I sure miss those simpler days!:jumping:

We had a 22' Arctic Fox with all the bells and whistles. When our GMC tow vehicle started showing signs that is was not long for this world we had to decide whether to replace it or ditch the whole set up and rethink things. We sold the trailer and truck and got the UZJ100 Land Cruiser. After a year of tent camping we knew that wasn't going to work. But we really like the freedom that style of camping offers. Long term we would like something like the Kimberly Kamper or the product AT is developing. Meanwhile we are enjoying the Gooney Bird in spite of the limits it puts on which trails we can tackle.

One of the best things is towing the pop-up has zero affect on the Cruisers gas mileage.

We took Mom on a 5 day tour of Nevada and Death Valley. Shes 82 and the Goony is a bit tall for her to get in and out of so I did a little mod.
I replaced the original single step with a double step which we bought at a local RV parts store.

I have to say it makes life easier for all of us and doesn't hang down much further than the stock step when folded up.

The next mod will be tie downs on the upper corners for use in high wind conditions.
