Thanks man for the link. :clapsmile It truly was an amzing adventure. Kinda sad though that it is nearly impossible to do the same trip in our time. Shows how much the world has changed.

I wonder if the BBC's B&W broadcast series is available anywhere...

I think it just might be. This video popped up on our satellite BBC-America channel a couple of months ago in some kind of travel/adventure program. I neglected to make any notes at the time.

I suppose a search HERE might bring up something.

What my wife and I found really interesting was that there were three guys to each 88 LR, and they didn't appear to have a whole lot of gear. We seem to take more just for a week long excursion than they did for a 4-5 month expedition. Truely amazing...thanks for posting.

I have noticed the same three people teams in two door 110s or even 90s. Must be the draw to expeditions and the search for adventure that over rides concerns for comfort.

I consider 3 to be the ideal number for expedition travel (assuming the 3 all get along well). If one gets sick or hurt it doesn't cripple the team; if disaster strikes and the team needs to split up, only one becomes vulnerable solo; in serious cases such as acting as a medic, one can provide care while the third drives.

One person 'in the back' isn't particularly uncomfortable. The third person may offer expertise missing in the other two, and for non-stop driving pitches, such as 24-48 hr marathons, three drivers can keep a vehicle in constant motion much better than two.

But in my case, the 3rd team member is usually our dog, who contributes nothing other than unconditional love!
