The Lunchbox Build... 4x4 chevy shorty van

As someone who has had a few satin black vehicles..... Don't do it.

Looks great after the initial paint job, for about a week, then ya wash it and it gets all sorts of scratches and doesn't look so good, and then it gets worse.

I think you should paint it like "the lunchbox" tamiya kit photo.

I think I'll start with a white paint job, just single stage enamel (probably tractor supply paint). Then I'll order up a stencil kit for the digital camo, and get to work. I could just use spray cans for the stencil kit, then lay down a matte clear over the top if I wanted to. It's going to be done on the cheap, no matter which direction I go. I'm no body-man, but I've sprayed a few cars and I think I can pull it off. I'm not a fabricator either, but I still built this pig. It'll just be one of those 60-60 paint jobs...@60 feet or 60 mph it'll look good...:sombrero:

First thing's first though.... caddy calipers, brake lines, and drive shafts.

If you do digital camo, make the pixels big or bigger, and definitely black, white, and grey. Or snow camo- black, grey, white, and blue. Someone up here just did a Subaru with the triangles, like the original camo on W.W. ll battleships.

Don't sweat it man....If it wasn't for canada, everybody would've been smoking mexican dirt weed all those years..... BC Buds ******! hahahaha

And we don't even send you guys the good stuff, but I've heard Kentucky can grow tomatos with the best of them. ;)

I've rattlecanned a few cars myself, and I'd say don't even worry about laying clear if you're only going to rattle can it. Also agree with making the pixels pretty big. I'd say you'll want like 2x2" or 3x3"... it may be a short van, but that's still a big canvas. Love the rig. Hurry up and get you and your young'n to the best coast already.

Also a standalone kudos to doing all this as a single dad. Good on you, sounds like a lucky kid.

Kentucky can definitely hold it's own in that department.... :ylsmoke:

My little man is something else.... It's a long story, but he hasn't seen his mother since he was about a year and a half old, and he's now 4. My mother died 4 years ago and the rest of my family fell apart after that. The only family we have left is my 82 year old grandfather (who's a big part of our lives, and friggin awesome btw). So I feel like I have to give him an extra awesome life because he got shorted on the family side of things. He doesn't start school until august of 2017, so we have until then to explore the country and figure out where we want to live.

I'm ready to get this show on the road!

That's an incredible story. Sounds like he's gonna be just fine. I came into my stepdaughter's life at 2 and a half, she never knew her bio-dad, we've been a family for 3 years now and have another one on the way. Hopefully your journey will find you a woman worthy of being little dude's mom.

If you find your way north of the border, I'd be glad to show you around my neck. We have really pretty trees.

Yeah! I dig the MOTO-VAN feather(?) thing, but the wave/mountain bird is cool, too.

I've got a 97 E350 ambo, my buddy has an 80s Chevy Get-Away Van. He and his wife go van-camping with their young son a lot. He's got all the cool, old toys. I've been looking around for something to give him that's even cooler. I think Tonka made some ambulances, but that adventure people setup is pretty slick. Canoe on the roof=great.
