No pics as we lost light, but got a lot of the teardown done. Radiator, condenser, trans cooler removed, power steeering cooler, most sensors, intake manifold etc... There is just a ton of ******** attached to this engine...

Sorry it was late last night, I needed a shower. So air tube, air box, and throttle body were off of the truck before I got it back. I have the radiator, trans cooler and power steering cooler off, idler, tensioner etc.. off the front of the engine, and injectors / rail out plus the intake manifold taken off. What the heck Ford was thinking putting vacuum and electrical connectors on the BACK of the manifold right at the firewall I will never know. I stripped the bolts off of the water pump to use on the new engine / and started mounting up bits and bobs there.

I removed the now unused tack on wiring harness for the prior Explorer Pro Comp Stainless off road lights. Basically same thing as KC Daylighters but in stainless steel bodies / hardware. I will be modding that harness for some hood mounted LEDsI also have another unused switch in that same dash panel that I forgot why I put it in, but that was a project that died on the vine. No clue what that can be used for at this point...

I am honestly replacing things that might not need it yet, but the truck has 116K on it, and has been sitting since 2016. My plan is to make the truck as new as possible so I have as few problems as possible...

One of the items that was honestly unexpectedly trashed on the old engine was the harmonic balancer, Not going to re-use the original, but I am going to pull it to get the woodruff key. Got a Dayco on order, and while I was in the order screen, I ordered up a winch cradle, some synthetic line as the OE steel line is shot, and I am trying to reduce weight, and of course a hawse fairlead. Yes I am planning on using the old Engo E9000 as a rear winch should it be needed. I honestly had 2 options. #1. Move the spare tire from under the truck bed on to a swing away style carrier that would have interfered with the tailgate function, or go with a winch cradle. I opted for the latter. Now I need to source up a hitch pin lock...

Spent some time digging through my shop. FIrst time in 30 years I have not had enough 0 gauge wire to hook up a winch. Looking on Amazon, yep copper got expensive. Oh well gotta do it... Only thing I am worried about is if it is copper coated aluminum wire. The front winch came with aluminum wire for the battery connections and they need to be moved over to copper, so I am looking for about 25 feet of black and 25 feet of red 0 gauge... That should get me to both ends, and connect both winches / provide sufficient wire to do the Anderson connector at the back / on the rear winch...

Synthetic line and hawse fairlead came in for the rear winch, waiting for the cradle. Also think I am going to go with a new hook as well as the old one is a bit trashed.

Going through the arrived parts. VCT Solenoids that were supposed to be Motorcraft I just unboxed, they MIGHT be but if they are, they were removed from the Motorcraft / Ford parts bags and wrapped in bubble wrap. I am NOT happy about this as I already have from the engine builders, a set of Dorman VCT solenoids. Just not sure I want to trust Dormans...

It has been slogging rain down on us which sucks, because we are working on a concrete slab at my friends place. Waiting for a delivery of the high output alternator today, discovered that we have no clue where the ECU is, the other guy took it off and set it down somewhere, he is unable to look for it right now. It will be a while before I am at that point though. If I must I can get a new one. I am hoping the OE will show up and we can just go from there. I need a tuner though. For right now when I get it going, I will be running 33x12.50/17s with 3.55 gears, I want to upgrade soonest possible to 4.11 gears and Detroit True Tracs on both ends unless I can find a selectable locker for the rear. I found the cables I need to make the winch hook up cables at least to get from the winch to the anderson connector. From the anderson connector to the battery is a different animal all together though... Still need cable.

The winch cradle is here, got the hawse fairlead installed to it, need to strip the winch of its current aircraft cable and bolt it up to the cradle. Since it is sogging rain today, probably do that since I can do that in the shop, get the winch mounted to the cradle and stow the winch / cradle / new line / hook aside for now.

So parts left to finish the build the way I want it.
New HD radiator. Thinking about a 6 row 2" core if I can get it to fit where the OE one was...
Maybe or maybe not ECU.
True Tracs, or selectable lockers, gears, and install kits.
LED lights and mounts. Not sure if I want hood mounted pods, or an overcab light bar.
TBD cargo basket and mounts.

Okay, stripped the Engo E9000 of its aircraft steel rope and mounted it up to the hitch cradle. Not fully ready to mount it up to the receiver and wind in the new synthetic cable. Whipped up a heck of a sweat doing it too... I guess I should have done this outside...

So over Saturday we got everything but the bellhousing and motor mount bolts disconnected.
We took today off as it's Easter. I did manage to get the water pump and harmonic balancer installed on the new engine with the exception of the harmonic balancer bolt as I understand it's a torque to yield peace so I'm not going to repurpose the original.
I also managed to swap in the LED taillights that are blacked out so headlights 3rd brake like until lights all match now.
I believe I mentioned the former mechanic has misplaced the ECU still looking forward it's going to be a while before I need it but it's entirely possible he may need to buy me a new one which takes because the old 1 has a tune on it.

So work week is killing me, and I am on call this weekend and I already know there will be on call work at least Saturday... So pending off until Sunday sooo...

Looking for where TF I put the winch controller for the Engo, it is not where I expected it to be, but once I find it, will hook up to a battery, drop the cradle in the hitch on the Pathfinder and wind on the new synthetic winch rope.
