16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
I love my 2000 Ford truck so its sad to see it go especially now that I have it completely 100% set up the way I wanted it. I basically decided it was costing me a little too much in fuel, I am 95% finished with my new diesel mini truck that will get 25 mpg, so I don't need two pick trucks for the most part (including a heavy duty tow rig), and I have the opportunity to get the $$ out of this truck before it got too many miles on it (it already has 245K) and had accumulated a little CC debt that I needed to get rid of from the mini truck build. So such is life... I was also looking at another tow rig that was gas for a possible conversion but the vehicle fell through and I haven't been able to find a replacement and in the end I decided this vehicle will work out nicely for me.
Anyway, this is basically going to be a around town car and/or winter time so I don't kill the new mini truck. It has some little quirks about it that 1 or 2 winters and I have a feeling it will be toast so this is the best solution.
Truck is bone stock, came from Florida, significant sun damage (clear coat all over the place and a mildly cracked dash) but super super clean and only 117K miles.. Bought in Toole, truly immaculate interior, not a peep of rust other than 1 quarter sized surface rust piece under the rear window, and a couple nasty leaks including the rear main (doh!). Which was why it was also very reasonably priced...
Plans are:
paint and new clear coat mostly for my sanity and fix leaks. It is on good 31's, and has good power with stock tires... I want to keep it fairly stockish though it would be the ultimate builder as well. But since I now have the mini truck close to done I'm in good shape as far as decent 4WD. The mini truck has some little possible rust issues on the frame etc so it will suffer badly if driven a couple winters up here. If I use Waxoyl on this FJ62 I think it will preserve just fine even in the winters here and it is a great possibly car to use as a platform later on again because it is so clean and the interior is so good. It would also be phenominal with a H55F manual transmission conversion but that is several thousand in costs so we'll see when/if that happens.
It seems to run and drive absolutely perfectly... Everything works including ice cold AC. I am super psyched, and man do I like old preserved 60s, and the square headlights are even growing on me believe it or not...
Not really in any hurry to do anything with it except replace the windshield and get it registered/inspected and get the leaks fixed which unfortunately will be several days of work.
best,
Andre
