The new FJ62...

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
I love my 2000 Ford truck so its sad to see it go especially now that I have it completely 100% set up the way I wanted it. I basically decided it was costing me a little too much in fuel, I am 95% finished with my new diesel mini truck that will get 25 mpg, so I don't need two pick trucks for the most part (including a heavy duty tow rig), and I have the opportunity to get the $$ out of this truck before it got too many miles on it (it already has 245K) and had accumulated a little CC debt that I needed to get rid of from the mini truck build. So such is life... I was also looking at another tow rig that was gas for a possible conversion but the vehicle fell through and I haven't been able to find a replacement and in the end I decided this vehicle will work out nicely for me.

Anyway, this is basically going to be a around town car and/or winter time so I don't kill the new mini truck. It has some little quirks about it that 1 or 2 winters and I have a feeling it will be toast so this is the best solution.

Truck is bone stock, came from Florida, significant sun damage (clear coat all over the place and a mildly cracked dash) but super super clean and only 117K miles.. Bought in Toole, truly immaculate interior, not a peep of rust other than 1 quarter sized surface rust piece under the rear window, and a couple nasty leaks including the rear main (doh!). Which was why it was also very reasonably priced...

Plans are:
paint and new clear coat mostly for my sanity and fix leaks. It is on good 31's, and has good power with stock tires... I want to keep it fairly stockish though it would be the ultimate builder as well. But since I now have the mini truck close to done I'm in good shape as far as decent 4WD. The mini truck has some little possible rust issues on the frame etc so it will suffer badly if driven a couple winters up here. If I use Waxoyl on this FJ62 I think it will preserve just fine even in the winters here and it is a great possibly car to use as a platform later on again because it is so clean and the interior is so good. It would also be phenominal with a H55F manual transmission conversion but that is several thousand in costs so we'll see when/if that happens.

It seems to run and drive absolutely perfectly... Everything works including ice cold AC. I am super psyched, and man do I like old preserved 60s, and the square headlights are even growing on me believe it or not...

Not really in any hurry to do anything with it except replace the windshield and get it registered/inspected and get the leaks fixed which unfortunately will be several days of work.

best,
Andre

Call me when you decide to sell it... Mia really wanted a gray 62 (me too), but we settled for the tan 60.

Very Nice,
I like the color.

On the oil leak,
often times it is not the rear main. It looks like it is but might just be your oil pan.
I had a wicked leak on mine for years and it was diagnosed as the rear main. Gary at Mudraks suspected the oil pan and after changing that gasket I have been leak free for two years.

Have fun!

Andre, is the Ford sold? Or just now going on the market?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see your thread in the Marketplace. Crap.

Hilarious. Purple People Eater was posting while I was typing. This is becoming a vehicle swap revolving door. :)

Very nice. My first LC love was the 62 - because of the square headlights....

Awesome guys.. Amazing how there are these little things that are so easy to fix but people don't do it. The guy included the original steering wheel which was having an issue with the horn not turning off. He bought this dumb-*** arcade style wheel, it ended up being a loose screw that was the problem. It was back on and fixed in 15 minutes? The original wheel is quite boat like though, someone from Wasatch Crusiers suggested an 80 series steering wheel which is an excellent idea. This truck really reminds me how different people's perspectives can from their various cars. It really is quite 'jeep like' in how it handles and bounces around, and is even a little harder to sort of be safe behind because it just wants to go as soon as you let off the brake. It is just awesome around town but also went up and down the pass just great tonight and not overly slow, so I think it will be a great truck...

I put a little into it this afternoon with 20 gazillion little small things like fluids and fixing the loose shifter for the trans. It will need a little work but not much and I really am psyched to have it as a smooth daily driver.. For a little while.. :D
