The new FJ62...

Dig the carphone, you should activate it.

So, guess what, is I got it plugged back in and sure enough it totally works. I even epoxied the antenna back in because I figured it would work well for 911 possibly.. But low and behold, pretty obnoxious of me to try but now I know, not even 911 works on it.. But a neat novelty nevertheless.. :)

Call me when you decide to sell it... Mia really wanted a gray 62 (me too), but we settled for the tan 60.

Awesome man, I didn't realize you were serious.. ... Sounds good to me!

Very Nice,
I like the color.

On the oil leak,
often times it is not the rear main. It looks like it is but might just be your oil pan.
I had a wicked leak on mine for years and it was diagnosed as the rear main. Gary at Mudraks suspected the oil pan and after changing that gasket I have been leak free for two years.

Have fun!

Very good to know.. I haven't looked closely yet, I would be **so** psyched it if weren't a rear main... That was a bargaining point though.. :) It sure is odd to have a rear main leak with so few miles but again it was hardly driven...

I also found my Super Duty thule rack fit kit mounts perfectly on it using the aero feet. It has rain gutters but I have started disliking rain gutter mounts because they can ding up the car so it was nice to have these bolt right on...

I guess photos to come. Now I need to forget this little beast for now and get back to work on the mini truck. I was hoping to finally fire it tonight but ran out of steam.. :(

If you would just finish the pig you could tow with it, drive in the winter, wheel it, and DD it......

All kidding aside, nice 62--did all of the 62s come with buckets? I thought I worked on one a couple years back that had a bench up front, but I may not be remembering correctly....

Dufe... What are you going to do with a Gasser?

I know... That is sort of why I'm considering it a winter car more or less... Good cold starts, quick warm ups, but we all know the gas engine is in "danger".. :)

Hey there Kliers, I didn't know you moved back east.. Hope you're doing well... Good call on the 55 as well... Just yesterday again staring at it out in the yard... It would also do everything well except winter again...

AFAIK all 60s came with buckets, some rare non USA ultra utilitarian ones have really cool benches and even third rows.... :)

Back east for another two years, then probably back to California.... Things are good. I have seen a couple of 60s with a third row, but IIRC, those were all aftermarket. Maybe if I get stationed overseas again I can find a 7-8 passenger 60......

Wow! talk about deja vu! Just a couple months ago I trailered the SAME Cruiser home with my F-250. Same color, same interior, even the trailer looks the same. Good luck with it, I love mine!

Awesome guys.. I also found out I may be able to get the clear coat and paint done relatively soon it sounds, perhaps the next week or two even possibly. I am super psyched about that...

Nice, that thing will be looking sweet. Are you going to do any rust prevention to the undercarriage?

probably, some sort of coating over the winter for the body panels and frame. There is a make yourself type material that is a little nasty but easily removable with a hot wash called waxoyl that I will probably use. I owned a flawless 1987 60 series from Quebec that I bought in '01 that had been waxoyled its entire life, it really does work...

That sounds interesting. I'll look for the write up.:coffee:

I started with a wire wheel under mine and then sprayed it with multi purpose black enamel.

Here are a couple links. I'll see if I can get Berg to chime in, he has a make yourself that is nearly identical and much cheaper...

Wow- my first Post

Guess I am a month late reading the post...I still use the home brew waxoyl
recipe in a garden sprayer..since I plow snow with my rig I coat it 2x each winter. Works well IMO.

Take a pound or so of paraffin wax and grind
it up with a cheese grater. Soak it in a half gallon of mineral spirits until all of the wax is dissolved. This might require allowing it to sit in a closed container for a couple of weeks (I just used a 5 gal. bucket with lid). Stirring will cause most of the wax to dissolve, but soaking should take care of the rest. Generally try to dissolve as much wax as the mineral spirits will hold.

After that, dump in a couple of pints of mineral oil ( less of a smell ) or non-detergent motor oil.

If the mixture is thick, thin it further with more mineral spirits until it is of a spray-able consistency.

Buy a cheap pump pesticide sprayer to apply it. I bought mine on sale at Lowes. That's all there is to it.

Here is a recipe for home made "Waxoyl". It's an old fashioned rust treatment / undercoating:

2 1/2 quarts turpentine
12 oz. beeswax / candle wax
1 quart light machine oil

With a cheese shredder, cut the wax into the turpentine, stir until the wax has dissolved, (takes a long time; you can use very low heat (a warm room) to aid but be careful) and thin with the machine oil to a brush-able / spray-able consistency. Apply liberally. You can use a hand spray bottle to get into closed-off sections if you have a small access hole.
