I've been lurking for awhile now, so it's time to show big girl(cause she's heavy) to everyone. I picked it up for $500 bucks, it was in poor shape than. With alot of help from my buddy Pat @ shocker motorsports, this is what I've built for my expo rig. The wife and I have been doing local trails sorting out the jeep, with a few longer trips to monache meadows and DV, which didn't go that well for the jeep. We had alot of fun though. The jeep is solid except for two problems. The classic no start for a ZJ, and a front seal leak on the trans. Stats and a few pics

I can't wait till it cools off a bit, so the wife and I can get out and explore. I like the winter more for exploring more than summer. I'm not much of a story teller. So if you made it this far, thx for reading.

Nice Rig!

A few years ago I purchased a '93 ZJ with the 5.2L for only $175! It had 295K miles, and didn't run due to a bad fuel pump. I replaced the fuel pump and she ran pretty good! I lifted it 4.5" and put on 33" Super Swampers:

Made a great trail rig, but was too worn out to be good on the highway. I sold it to make room for my more streetable TJ.

I sure had a lot of fun with that ZJ!! Have fun with yours!

Pretty decent setup, how do you like having such high gearing with only running 33's and the v8? And don't be in a hurry to run 35's, it gets expensive pretty quick.

I love the gearing. Im in no hurry with the rig loaded down. I have no problem running 75mph on the freeway. I just removed 4.56's. With the old gears I would have to load up on the gas pedal to get it to climb some steap inclines. Even in 4lo. The 4.88's helped out alot. The ZJ is pretty heavy stock 4400lbs, I'm sure mine weighs alot more unloaded. I added the 8.8 knowing i would be adding alot of expo weight. Both of the stock axles where bent when I bought it.

A small update. Or not!

I've been thinking about replacing the ZJ lately. The ZJ flawless on and off the road, but it shows its age, and the mods have there own little quirks. So I test drove a new JKUR, it's a great jeep. But that was before I found the other two dogs, which I now have 4 boxer dogs. My tread on the dogs adventure. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/92334-Lost-my-adventure-buddy-s-Both-are-home-safe! Than I could spend an easy 70g's very quickly, and it's no bigger than the ZJ. So I was checking out a LC series 80 at DRV 2013. A great truck, but still not much bigger the the ZJ, also getting old, under powered, and I'll still have to build it up 20-30g's. Now I really like the idea of a SAS series 100 LC for the future. But still it would be an easy 40'g's plus to build it my way. They're all good options for replacing the ZJ. Except for the simple fact the ZJ is well built and very reliable for a very large amount of trail mileage every year. So the wife and I will try and make the ZJ work for us and the pack for awhile longer. I've ordered another ARB 12v power cord and tiedown kit so I can move the 50qt to the Bantam trailer, so the four 70lb dogs have a bit more room inside( plus valuables) for those longer desert trips.

Sounds like you need a BIG Rubicon - a Power Wagon. Lots of room, very, very capable, and can be configured to do so many different things well.

I was thinking maybe Landcruiser 80 series? a lot more room inside, can be had for a decent price and mods can be had for decent pricing.

I looked at a FWC for the Dmax. Lock the front and bingo, my new desert rig. But that means little to no fun with such a heavy rig.

The best part is the Dmax is paid for. So just the price of the FWC.
