The Return of the Land Cruiser

It all started in 1999. Back in 1999 I bought my first Land Cruiser. A 1974 FJ40 in good shape/low mileage and that started the bug. My dad and I ended up owning roughly 8-10 at one time in various stages of repair/disrepair. One of my best friends has always wanted one since the day he first saw my 40, so in a spirit of giving I let him have one of the FJ40's that was in marginally good shape. The floors were rusted but everything was there and it ran. So he picked it up and brought it home much to the dismay of his wife, mostly due to the fact that while it was complete, it wasn't completely assembled to say the least... So being the hag she is, she made him get rid of it. So he (Brian) gave it to our friend Miles. Miles went through a divorce and gave it back to Brian, who in turn is still not divorced and was yet again forced to get rid of it. So Brian gave it to our friend Justin and this is where it ends/starts over.
Today started out like any Monday. I overslept, rushed, slid into work sideways at exactly 8:30, tie hanging loosely, shirt half tucked in, thinking it would be one heck of a day. Then I get a text message that Justins wife is pregnant. So I call to congratulate and one thing leads to another and I ask "how does this effect the FJ40 project." Justin says with the new baby he'll be tight on funds and won't be able to complete the project and in a fit of greediness I say "I'll gladly take it off your hands," expecting to pay a couple hundred bucks just for good will and he says if I can come get it I can have it! So.... 9 years ago I gave away a running FJ40 that needed a new floor and some TLC only to get it back for free with the floor repaired! Sometime this summer I'll be making the trip down to LA (Lower Alabama) to bring it home. It's fairly straight, especially after my friends put such hard work into it..... So I'm thinking new seats/lined interior, new suspension and tires, and while I'm at it I might as well add some storage in the back and add a tank for water and a long range fuel tank.... Yes.. today will be one heck of a day!:luxhello:

Nice story of Cruiser karma - :clapsmile

BTW, 'hag' is one of my favorite terms for some of my friends wives as well. ;)

Yep! It's gonna be good to have it back. I saw it in March and the interior has been gutted/stripped but I want the Bestop seats like hltoppr has in his FJ45 anyway so it's fine with me. It's still got the longer rear jump seats so I may recover those and keep them as well. It'll need to be painted so I'm thinking the tan/dune color is the way to go. It'll be a low key, although probably not low cost, fix up with emphasis on quality and durability. Kind of my own Toyota version of Jonathan Hanson's Grendel. Not a show stopper but dead reliable.

That was a low blow. I guess I'll add some insult to the injury you caused. Going from a Toyota to a Range Rover and Jeep. What could cause further disgust to a Toyota die hard?

It was a good story.
