The right cell phone for overlanding??

I'm looking into this as an option to tether my Blackberry Tour 9630 to my iMac or a laptop in the future.

Do you know if you can let do of your landline completely in Texas, or is a landline required in order to have utilities running at your home? I think I had to get a landline (and I happened to get DSL at the same time) because my utilities company required it. I think. I wonder if I can drop the landline now that I've been living in my place for several years.

Thanks!

If you just want to occasionally tether, you may be ok, but if you want to make this your primary internet connection, check with your carrier. Most wireless carriers require a tethering feature to be added to your account for an additional fee (Verizon I believe its $15, and Sprint I think has just stopped doing it, it was called PAM-phone as modem). I know people who have gotten bills in the thousands of dollars for tethering without the correct features on your account. Tethering via bluetooth is very easy in Windows, I believe its a bit harder in OSX, but doable. Instructions can be found by googleing tether blackberry to mac. I think having BDM avalible for Mac now will make it easier. There are also a couple of programs avalible to do it as well, PDANet (http://www.junefabrics.com/blackberry/index.php) or tether for Blackberry (formerly known as Tetherberry, http://www.tetherberry.com/).

Also remember, unlike your average reliable home dsl/cable connections, alot of different factors will affect your connection like signal quality and number of users on a tower. I have gotten speeds as high as 1mb/sec, but have also been stuck with 10 kb/s or less at times.

I have been trying to find the right place to post this so excuse me if I'm in the wrong place. I have an otter box defender case for my iPhone and it is amazing. It makes it seem almost bullet proof. However I was never too crazy about the holster. It never seemed very secure. After about two months the belt clip broke and I contacted the company about this. Wonderful support. They said the holster has been redesigned to hold the phone more securely and they would send me another free of charge. I love dealing with companies that back up their product like this.
