I am somewhat perplexed, as they say the only silly question is the one you didn't ask, but here is one that I haven't looked into yet but was sitting here thinking about.

Does the body of my FG dual cab tilt like a single cab???

A Big No but you can undo the 4 body mounts and jack the body up and it will tilt . I haven't try this yet mainly be accuse I have had been able to get to all the stuff I have touched so far.
The whole panel in the back comes off gives you great access to the motor.

So are you saying there is a panel under the floormats that is on the vertical wall behind the drivers seat???

Interesting... I will have to remove the floor mats and investigate.

I am having all manner of problems getting at the alternator on my truck.

Does anyone know, is it legal to use 4 point harness seat belts in road vehicles in Queensland????

Hi, Yes that's the panel has 10mm (I think) headed bolts has about 20 of them.
And I am sure I took the drivers seat out and there was a panel there too and a plastic panel on the inner guard .
If you still have no luck il have a look this weekend for you.

I do not know what the specific rules are in Qld, but if you were to go down that route you would probably have to get an engineer to sign off on the fixation points.
I would think that a horizontal bar, sort of like a low roll cage, would pass the strength test for the upper seat belt mounts. The lower mounts would be simpler.

G'day all knowing,

Has anyone split the two cranking batteries on a canter with a smart solenoid, Using one battery for cranking, one for other appliances?

I did not do that but I did try only using one of the two batteries for starting, with only one, the start will be laboured, it really will not turn the engine over fast enough in my opinion, but it did start it. Once outside temperatures drop one battery will not turn the engine over at all , that is temps below 5'C. And that is what you would have if the other battery is depleted from appliances, the other problem would be that the batteries that are in there are not designed for repeated discharge/charge and will die an early death for sure. I would say it is not going to be a long term way of having split batteries and I would not recommend it.

edit: Oops, I didnt see the title "all knowing" but answered anyway, sorry.

It doesn't sound like a great idea for all the reasons just stated. In general house and crank batteries should be separate, they are often connected together in various ways and various times but if the truck is designed with two crank batteries that shouldn't be dicked with. Much better to add house batteries.

Hi all

My truck breezed through a roadworthy today, much to my surprise, but exceptionally pleased.

Now to pay for the rego... another serious blow to the pocket.

If you don't mind me asking... how much do they charge for rego in Qld?

Hi Ski

I am going to rego it today but it is about $2000 including CTP and I have to pay stamp duty on top of that as well so I will hand over about $3k to the bureaucracy.

Yikes, better get it changed to a camper ASAP, and do what I did, drive down to Victoria and get it regoed there.

Well the rego and stamp duty ended up costing me $2450.

They made a heap out of me today.

But it is all on the road and legal now which is the best.

Now for insurance.

Yep Ken Tame is good, and one of the few people that will insure a custom truck/motorhome/camper for what it is anyway.
