Andrew, I'm not sure. It's made from the same canvas as the tent so it's not going to be super light, but it is bullet proof.

Give Mario a call, the awning is at the shop and I'm still dusting off the ski boots and waxing the boards up here in Tahoe.

I have tried several awnings on my Element. There are some pictures on my pbase gallery

My current favorite is a MSR Vistatarp. This is a smaller version of the Outfitter, that is no longer made. The outboard end uses an 8' (Kelty) pole. Near the car I use 2 6' poles to gain some headroom. It is secured to the roofrack with a spreader bar (7'long) and a short riser to raise the middle, creating a rain draining ridgeline.

I have also used a Kelty Carport. Mine doesn't have the extra poles that the deluxe model includes, but I can see how they would work. When used in leanto fashion I've had some problems with poor water drainage in the nearly level part near the car. To deal with that I raise one end of the roof mount, so there is a slope from back to front. With deluxe poles this would be less of an issue.

I use mine more for rain shelter than sunshade, hence the concern with water drainage.

I also use a Kelty Noah 12 4 corner wing tarp for shelter over the dining table.

Mine actually are the models that come without the poles too, so I just bought a couple Kelty telescoping poles to mimic t he deluxe setup.

This is my one complaint with the Kelty design, and it may actually be worse with the poles in place. The poles take the portion which is flat when configured as a lean-to, and angle it down, toward the Carport/vehicle interface.

Is that the Universal Awning Mounting Bracket, or is it something additional?

And can the support poles be lowered slightly, so that rain would shed off the awning away from the vehicle?

Just north of Durango, CO. Sept. 2006......getting ready for a thunder storm!

Warm and dry.....all night long! I could even cook on my tailgate.....all dry and warm. Shuuuuuuuu...... I even had my TV plugged in and was watching the current football game....being beamed up from Durango!

I actually have more tarps to wall off the sides. Which I did later in the night as the storm rolled through.

I have the Moss Outfitters Wing

It looks similar to the MSR Outfitters Wing with the same 200 sg ft coverage area. I don't know how the MRS quality compares but I really enjoyed my Moss Wing and I have used it in some nasty weather with great results. I would not want to break it down and move everyday but if you are staying in one camp for awhile, they are great.

Moss was bought by MSR so they are the same, pretty much.
