MY best advice is to do your homework and don't let horror stories scare you. There are plenty of those by the uniformed. Many people have run 3.5's for 300k miles or more. Join the forums that cater to your new toy and enjoy. The info is there. far more than I can give you. You'll be changing the oil soon enough anyway.

No, finish the 3,000 mile interval, then run a mild engine flush and switch to Rotella. As a minor correction, as far as I know, the original pistons had two holes, the revised pistons had four holes. The way you can tell which you have is to look at the PCV valve. If it is a push is valve you have the old design, if it is a screw in valve you have the revised design. The oil you are looking for is the Shell Rotella 5w-40 synthetic.
If it is true that "Isuzu spent more money developing that 4wd system then most companies spent to develop a complete new SUV" I would say that was a colossal waste of money.

Thanks for adding to the piston thing. I've been told 4 vs 8 holes but haven't personally torn one down. So I should have just said "not enough oil holes."
I got the TOD info from several web sites including a small documentary deal on the VX. It was verbally confirmed by someone I know with connections at Isuzu. They developed it for the VX but then used it in other models. To the best of my knowledge BW also has sold the system to several other manufacturers as well. They used the same basic design with their own brand names for the system. It may be that the statement would be more accurate about total money spent developing the system. It may not all have come from Isuzu. Seems plausible. It's a nice system but I'm not crazy about auto 4x4 in any flavor myself. I prefer a lever actuated part time system with a manual trans.
There is no shortage of auto manufacturers willing to waste huge amounts of money on all kinds of things.

I always liked those ... a lot. I don't have any pics, but several years ago there were a couple russian guys parked in the ski area parking lot one morning and after I parked the cat, I chatted with them for a bit. They were doing a little traveling in it, had it all stickered up, lifted, bigger tires, etc. Can't remember the specifics, but it flat out looked pissed off. Looked to be a very capable build, drive anywhere sort of rig. Great sized wheelbase to turn into a legitmate offroad machine.

Mine too, check your local Pep Boys as some of them are running a lower price (non advertised) special on Royal Purple. The one I go to in Pensacola has it for $5.29 a quart. On top of that I used the 10% off coupon for the customer review on line and it brought the price down to $4.76/quart. I cleared them out of my weight at that price. Oil for years. :Wow1::sombrero::wings:

Lucky you! I have been looking for about two years. Most have excessive wear on the leather seats on the oustide bottom pannel of the driver's seat, they crack, yours looks good! I found the only pearl white ever made, it's still being driven by a Harley mechanic. It's not for sale, but I have dibbs. The only one made with factory pearl white paint in the US!

I just rolled 100k with my VX and I love it just as much as the day I bought it.
Mine burns oil like no tomorrow, been running Mobile-1 since I bought it with 25k on the clock.
Anyway, let me know if you have any questions. Nice score, you'll love the VX, and don't be afraid to lift it a little. Just get some OME 912 springs for the rear and turn the torsion bars a little and you will have a nice 1.5-2" lift. IMO, makes the stance perfect with some 32"s or 285s.

BartThere was a U tube video of a VX cutting dougnuts, appeared to corner more like a sports car, fun to watch. If I could get my hands on that Pearl white, you can bet it will never be going down trails or rock climbing, some off road yes, nothing that would scratch that paint!
