awhile back I started a welder build... an update

this is kind of giving up but not really.

I bought a welder for the '40
XsoXK9P.jpg

I still have the system I built - but I don't completely trust it, and since the FJ40 has all sorts of electronics in it that could be toasted by a faulty charging system, I called an audible and decided I'll put it on the Blazer (which doesn't have any electronics necessary to keep it running).

I already learned the Premier uses 3 rectifiers instead of just the one I'm using now - and talked about it to my electronic experts and I'll be adding that to my system for the Blazer...

anyway, as the '40 is my only running vehicle, I'm not taking it apart to install the welder until either my 1 ton gets running or the Colorado gets home

fun, if it worked today, I could have used it to help someone out up on Naches.
getting there, though

say goodbye for a month or so.... and it will be a bit longer then that before I start back up on it

It's going to a paint shop to make it grey. they'll knock it down to components then paint it. I'll reassemble
WbRIPkJh.jpg

but that won't happen until after I finish the Jeep and build Anthony's 54 pickup
which will give a good chance to fully dry

That wagon looks like it's getting some love, maybe a little info and a couple pics when it's done??

1964 Buick Special wagon. it's not the glass top car which is pretty rare now. I was working on this car when we moved 2 years ago. Frame is done, drivetrain is done, it's 'just' bodywork now. For power, it has an LS that came out of the Denali I posted on here several years ago (6.0), trans is a 4L80e, rear is a 12 bolt. Boxed and powder-coated the frame. It's been a long term project because the first 'project' was getting a title for it, then getting a quarter panel - and that's where I'm at. need to put the quarter on, and finish up a lot of body work...

back to it. when the Colorado got hit, it damaged the winch. Still arguing with my insurance company about whether or not they'll pay for it but there is no way I'll ever use it again except for parts... thus, I needed a new one. But I'll put it on here - this has some features that work great on the '40. The one on it now has wireless remote - and that will be key in the new bumper on the Colorado

Interesting aside there - I could probably send the winch back to smittybilt because they have a lifetime warranty.... but I need the control box for my car trailer winch... so this works out okay.
onto voiding every warranty... this time, wire edition
KZ9YPKfh.jpg

so with much shorter wires
DrGiTC0h.jpg

and the alternator in place and hooked up
b62jy6th.jpg

it's alive!
qigJaOSh.jpg

and the regulator is now mounted
6LCsMGNh.jpg

also now have a closed system on the transfer case... the 4:1 gears seems to kick a lot of oil up and through the vent... ah well, fixed
9y84kTgh.jpg

one fun fact - so I need an ignition hot wire. That should be the ignition wire. it's not as it is... there's a positive bleed (and explains my need to leave this on a battery maintainer)... so tomorrow
1) find an ignition hot wire without a bleed
2) connect the throttle control
3) then make sure my oil leak is solved...

breakage every 3 years... what a POS! ... kidding... 250k miles and it owes me nothing but keep plugging along with working ac
until it didn't
QAigVBBh.jpg

It always had a rattle in the drive belts - couldn't figure it out... I know what it was - the bolt on the bottom of the alternator broke.
QAigVBBh.jpg

eventually the tensioner over tensioned and let the belt fly off
and fixed
vMR22kah.jpg

so you'll either see it again in 3 years or I'll have sold it.... The Blazer is getting close enough to be a spare (and I'll have my wife's Colorada too)

to end the asking.... $5700

the whole point of getting the dually running was to pick up these parts
MvkW1WOh.jpg

doors
oZ11EC3h.jpg

a lot of money but very satisfied with the result. Not perfect by any stretch HOWEVER, 8 weeks to color and 60 hours of bodywork.... they got it done
6Utkjb9h.jpg

safest place to store parts so that's the current focus
