Wow....that is SOME PROJECT ya got going there! I have had 4 Monteros.... my latest is a newly acquired 2005 Gen 3 Montero Ltd. Beautiful vehicle...excellent 4wd system...lots of room and comfortable too! I am going to order from Adventure Designs their 3 pack of stainless steel skid plates...as well as putting in some beefier Bilstein shocks and new coil springs with them. Would also like to put in a new radio/CD/USB type of unit to replace the old OEM one. Heres some pics of my Monty. Let me know how your build-ouit goes! Cheers...happy trails driving!

OMG! How many miles are on your engine and was all the maintenance up to date? Let us know what you find out if you get it diagnosed.

Man, I was really looking forward to the report of the trip you had planned out. Such a gut punch to have the engine seize up just a few miles into things after so much prep.

What were you using for an air filter with the way your snorkel setup is built?

Ugh. New engine is in, and it runs, but there is obvious piston slap. It is under warranty, but the wage they will pay out to a mechanic is not enough to cover what it would cost to rectify, so I have to take the rig to LA where the manufacturer is located to have them haul it out and true up the pistons...

At the moment I am trying not to drive it and the gas mileage has dropped from 15/20 to about 9 mpg.

It currently sounds like a diesel tractor... but it looks amazing!
