The "What Did You Do To Your Pop-Up Truck Camper Today?" Thread!!!

Today I laid down some foam floor matting onto where the Flippac mattress would normally go. Cost $8/roll at harbor freight, and I used 2 rolls + a few feet from 3rd roll. I stuck them down with acrylic carpet tape ~$8 at the hardware store.

I think this will ad comfort, but definitely will help keep my sleep pad from sliding & me with it.

Bonus is I can grab a quick nap without inflating my pad.

Also installed my side curtains. I should have read how the Roaming Robertsons did it earlier....I think they look pretty good! $9 eac at Walmart. I added grommets to them, as they are installed sideways. "Blackout" curtains, supposedly block out 90% light. I left the white side in, to see stuff easier inside with the lights on.

The curtains I just slide up against the rear, so they are a cinch to deploy. I did add some Velcro-like tabs so they stick to the window frames. Gives a "sense" of more space.

Much better than my previous system of sticking silver window shade cutouts onto the windows...

Just modified my CVT awning walls to fit my truck with the tailgate down, and back window up.

Mine was the "55" size, so I knew when I bought it I'd have some fiddling to do.

Not too bad actually. I cut up the bathtub floor to make an external rain/wind skirt, and also cut the truck side door down the middle. Both the floor & door zip into the room, making extra fabric (I don't sew).

The only fabric I had to buy was some black vinyl for the tailgate to the ground.

I used some industrial strength "Velcro" like stuff to help keep things neat & tidy.

I'm very pleased with how it came out. Setup time is just a couple minutes. Boom extra room!

The entire room packs/bundles up into a single large storage box, and it fits nicely under my bench in the bed. Easy.

Probably not suitable for high winds, but has allready been fine in mild winds. The bonus is it covers up my rear area lighting (if I want), keeps a "low profile" & I won't be bothering other folks in a crowded area if I use my lights ie arrive late & need to cook, shower etc.

A couple of small projects on the old Cuchara....

First, Hallmark uses a weird system for their table and dinette bunk. There is a heavy, particle board table, which needs to be stored at night above the overhead bunk... a potential head banger.... and a piece of 1/2 inch plywood to put in the dinette to support the bed. Dumb. I build a table out of 5/8" plywood, covered the top with formica, sanded and stained the edges and put the tube flange off of the old table under it and SHAZAM, no more extra stuff to deal with. I remembered in the old hardside we used 40 years ago, had a system like this, also the tube flange is slightly off center so the table can be spun around 180 degrees to provide either more room in the isle or more room for a person seated over the wheelwell.

The original table and storage location. Also note my attempt at increasing sleeping comfort by replacing the RV foam mattress with a thicker memory foam mattress. It's a bit snug, but we're going to try it anyway.

Here's a view of the table configured for a bunk.

and as a table...

I also installed a fan on the ceiling to improve ventilation and provide a little white noise to help us sleep. The location was a bit tricky to clear the bathroom door, not ********** my head, and allow clearance for dropping the top.

I used a strip of plywood to attach it to the ceiling where it needed to be, since there were no supports there.

Nice Doc! I trimmed down my table a long time ago to fit the panel location and took the brackets off the ceiling. Like the edges on your 5/8 ply though... Might have to do that! Did you find light grey formica to match the counter?

Not sure why in the world Hallmark didn't just make the table fit there in the first place... The overhead storage and extra panel was pretty silly for the extra ~2" of table length that it got them...

I agree, Deuce, like it was designed by committee. I used an off white, almost almond formica... pretty well matches what's in my camper. Only thing is... when I started this project, I thought it would be a low budget affair. I had some old formica stored in the garage, rolled up and taped to protect it... however, when you leave it rolled up for a dozen years or so, it won't flatten out. The edges wouldn't stay down. Of course, no one stocks sheet formica, at least not in 90's colors....so after shopping my local lumber yard ('We can order that for you') and trying 3 Home Depots and 2 Lowes, I ordered from the local yard...oh yeah, minimum 4' piece, oh and a cut charge, and don't forget the packaging charge.... $55 later I have my stuff. So much for doing it on the cheap! LOL

The problem is in use you wind up getting water behind the sink on the counter.

Installed 200W of solar panels from Renogy on top last night. Unfortunately it was dark when we finished so I'll have to wait for the sun to come up to verify that they are working.

Edit: Showing 12.5V and 2.5A on the controller at 8:00 this morning so it looks like they are working!

In the process of the build

I started this about a month ago.. and took her to Maine this past weekend..

I'm a computer geek, not a carpenter.. but this turtle shell of a house worked!

I have an SPT 9000BTU heater/AC mounted in the cabin and sleeping space for three

Looks great, very cool and very tall. I'd be curious to see pics of the inside, see how you use that space. Thanks for sharing.
