The Wife's '15 Ford F150 EcoBoost

They don't "plummet" under any kind of load. The worst they will do is get about the same MPG while towing as their V8 powered counterparts, while giving far better performance.

This isn't even close to true.
My 2007 Toyota Tundra with the 5.7L gets 17 miles per gallon. When I haul the same trailer it only drops to 13.5 miles per gallon. Both of these are at the same 75 miles per hour like the F-150.
I have a '15 w/a 5.0L and 3:73's. Trailer is about 4,500 lbs. It's a tent trailer so not real wind resistance. I lose about 2 mpg towing. I want to say approx 17-18 MPG towing?
I have never towed with an Eco-boost so have no frame of reference there.

You can enter in a correction factor to make the computer read out more accurate.

Does the 3.5 require premium fuel to get the best performance out of the boosted engine?

According to Ford, yes. If you talk to people, some don't notice a difference while others do. I think it has a lot to do with your driving style and the air temp.

Over all, they will make more power on higher octane fuel when put on a dyno. If you get an aftermarket tune then you can set it for premium fuel and make quite a bit more power.

I won't be tuning it. Stock is reliable, I have a Mustang to go fast. If this isn't a strong enough truck I should have bought a 250.

If you use a reputable company tuned truck is just as reliable as stock. You get more power, better driveability, and in some cases you even pick up a slight fuel mileage increase.

You can also use an "ecopro" module to get more (~60hp) but it doesn't remap the shift points so it's not nearly as good.

Somewhat related, you need to run Premium when you're towing. A friend and I were talking about this, he used to have a similar EcoBoost F150 and he thinks the truck runs a more aggressive map far as boost, timing and fueling when it recognizes the 7 pin connector is plugged in.

The engine did seem to pull harder with the load when I've towed, but that could just be a matter of the turbos pushing more air, due to the engine having a higher load on it.

When I towed 8,000#'s I was very impressed with the EB, it had quick acceleration and even spun the tires a little when I was trying to pull on to the freeway and catch up to traffic speed!

Hey Greg - how did the Falcons affect the ride comfort? I love the plush ride on mine but I'm already going to E-rated ATs from the P-rated all seasons. I've read that the Bilstein leveling shocks are noticeably firmer than stock. I wondered how you felt about the Falcons in that regard.

Have you seen the thread about the Falcons on this truck? There may be some helpful information in there, but I'll respond as well. - https://www.expeditionportal.com/fo...-sport-tow-haul-shocks-on-a-ford-f150.200531/

The Falcons are more firm than stock shocks, but it's not in a bad way. Honestly, it's really hard to describe how these shocks are better over the internet. :) To me, it seems like the Falcon shocks allow the springs to work, but the shocks dampen the rebound right away. I could see how this could be seen as more firm, when it's simply better working shocks. To me, the factory shocks were pretty light on dampening, we've driven the truck on pretty bad paved roads and it seemed like they were easy to overwhelm and at that point the truck became unstable and uncomfortable. The initial thing I noticed on the road after installing the Falcons was how much more 'sporty' the truck felt. Driving the truck around after some miles now, I don't feel like they're too firm.... but rather the truck has more suspension control. What I have loved is how amazing the Falcons have made the truck on so many different levels.... Offroad, Towing & On Road. The truck is so much more capable in all aspects.

Hope that helps?
