Thinking about a brush guard, for cosmetic only

I got a guy on CL selling what I think is a "stock" montero brush guard. Thinking about mounting it up on my gen 2.5. I know all about the extra damage they could cause by being pushed into body work, etc, etc.... I'm not really all that concerned about that bit... I just like the look.

I've attached a photo, and have done a little searching on the interwebs, but I can't seem to find any instructions or how-to of people who have installed these things before.

It has a little bend along the bottom rail, and will probably talk him down a bit because of it...

thoughts on installation? Will this fit a '99?

That looks a lot like a used Land Rover brush guard, might just be the angle though, look here http://www.rangerovers.net/outfitting/bumperclassic/

like this one?

This is what I see... it even looks like it has the right sculpting to wrap around the bumper

Although the image above has pointier tips at the wrap-around section. the craigslist item looks flat on the wrap around

Your craigslist pic looks like a Gen 1 brush guard to me, with the square wrap-arounds. The Gen 2 brush guards that I've seen have angled-wrap arounds to clear the SR fender flares, as your pic of the white Montero illustrates.

I have a Gen 2 brush guard and it does not fit my Gen 2.5 as the wrap-arounds contact the fender bulges. It bolts up in front though, so to make a Gen 2 guard fit a 2.5, you'd have to bend the wrap-arounds outward to clear the bulges.

I did see the picture from your build thread of the guard you pulled from the pick-a-parts. What did you give for it at the parts place? Have you thought about cutting off the wrap arounds?

@MarksMonte, where did you find those pictures?!? I spent probably an hour looking through various google images with all manner of search terms trying to find a picture just like the one you have of that red montero.

Just picked up the brush guard, the seller sent me a couple of photos of this guard attached to another gen 2.5 he had. I will post a couple of photos once I get it installed.

It bolted right on. It doesn't follow the contour as well as perhaps a modern version would, but it works, and gives me somewhere to mount a couple of go-faster lights. Unfortunately the stock front skid plate doesn't fit inside the mounting bolts. So I'm going to have to trim the front edges of the skid plate if I want to put it back on.

I'm really digging the gen 1 burshguard. MarksMonte, I would be interested in seeing if that would fit on my Gen 1 SWB. Can you give me some more information on that guard? Manufacturer and Model. What ever you can give me would be great.

Jay, you probably want to PM Mark.
