Thinking about getting a LC or LX470 or maybe the LR3

Just as capable and 6 maybe 7 times as reliable! It's not just a Toyota, it's the finest example of a Toyota produced for that year.

Do they raise or lower themselves like the LR3/4? What type of terrain response? What makes them as capable without modification. On road comfort is very important. I will say the dependability alone is a huge factor!!!!

If I had to choose between a LR and a LX/LC, I'd pick the LX/LC. It's a solid vehicle, rides great, plenty of interior space, and extremely reliable (especially major components).

You should really check out the ih8mud 100 series section, but here's a quick newbie guide that should answer all your questions http://www.sleeoffroad.com/newbie/newbieUZJ100.htm
I went through the same dilemma, but I knew in the back of my mind that if I bought a rover, I would kick myself for not just getting a Land Cruiser. I have a fairly well built low mileage 1994 80, and I never ever regret my purchase...I actually crack a smile each time I turn the key (not when I hit the gas station though)!

It will be my wife's grocery getter our family trip machine and fun machine/camping exploring cross country machine. It needs to do everything but not be a tank, my wife will drive more than me. I'll check out that link thanks.

I have both. 2000 LC and 2006 LR3. 100% Stock vs. stock I think the LR3 is more capable. However the LC will fit 33" tires without any lift.

The LR3 is also better for daily driving; more enjoyable and easier to drive, and super smooth on the highway.

I have a lot of off road miles on my LC, and driven it very hard and it never complains. It's an extremely tough truck!

Not making it easier!! :smilies27 I had decided that the LX470/LC may be the best because of the reliability and how close it was to the LR, I guess we could sacrifice on the ride and ease of driving. She had an LR4 and we loved it, but had to sell it because of financial reasons. Timetable....I need to get her something else in the next 60days...

I think both vehicles are very very different, almost hard to compare. Both are good in their own ways. Has she looked at and driven a 100?

For what it's worth, my wife daily drives the LR3 and loves it, but doesn't like driving the 100 (mainly because it feels and drives like a huge vehicle)

She has not. They seem hard to find. I may see if I can get her to one to test drive...I found a lx470 a '03 model I think.

In your opinion, what could be done to the LC to make it as capable as the LR3? I think the reliability will win out for us, so I wanted to see where you draw your opinions from.

My LC is my to go to vehicle for most of my off road trips. Mainly because its much more equipt and I've already scratched and dented it from using it hard off road. Mine has 33" tires, OME 1.5" lift, frame sliders, and a few other goodies, but I think those are the most important

Fill it with gas. That should make the LC "as capable".

OME lift? Is that the lift that comes on it from factory? (The height adjustment)

Does it have more cargo space with the third row removed? How easy is the third row removed?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does it not have some type of intelligent traction system also?
