Thinking about getting a LC or LX470 or maybe the LR3

You responded to my query about choosing the LC over the 4Runner due to it's larger size. I don't believe the LR3 is any bigger than a 4runner. It actually may be smaller. One member mentioned that the Cruiser is much bigger than the LR3, making it not as nice for the wife to drive. Also, check out the reviews of the LR3. They mention lots of problems with the fuel system and that adjustable suspension.

Do they raise or lower themselves like the LR3/4? What type of terrain response? What makes them as capable without modification. On road comfort is very important. I will say the dependability alone is a huge factor!!!!

Land rover airbag suspension has proven to be no very reliable.

OME lift? Is that the lift that comes on it from factory? (The height adjustment)

Does it have more cargo space with the third row removed? How easy is the third row removed?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does it not have some type of intelligent traction system also?

The LC probably has slightly more cargo room than the LR3. The LR3 is not much smaller than the LC, they are both big vehicles.

The third row is easily removed from the LC, no problem. Yes, the ATRAC in the LC is very, very good. It has allowed me to go many places in which I probably shouldn't have :D

So the LC is not stock? It has a 1.5" lift? The LR is stock? I think the real issue is that I am scared of buying a truck expecting it be able to do everything well for her and off road and wanting to drive it forever! I went to a Lexas dealer today and found a LX470 used it was a 2010 model. It was just stupid nice BTW, I did it to see the room for a reference. Those dumb seats in the back take up way too much room (and now they are not removable BTW totally electric) the 100 series obviously will be able to have them removed from what everybody says. The height adjustment seems to be a joke because I saw VERY LITTLE difference between the normal and high setting! Does the 100 series have a better high setting? If not it will HAVE to be lifted to do well off road I think. The LR3 will lift a good bit higher stock to stock vs. the LC. I am not sure that I want a lift because the wife will not like the lifted driving.

Yes, my LC is not stock. I've also had it much longer than the LR3, which I only acquired late last year for the wife. Of course I had to test it out on a few off road excursions, and the capability of the LR3 blew me away in stock form.

I do not have AHC on my LC, just good ol' regular springs and shocks. With 33" tires and 1.5" lift, I think the LC is perfect for what I use it for. Where are you located and what type of trails do you plan to use it on?

Not sure what trails. Just want to be prepared. I guess the primary function would be family truck with camping trips and fun cross country trips also. I want to spend as little money as possible on mods. I guess I was a little underwhelmed with the height control if the lx470 after having owned an LR4 before. I think someone would have to raise the LC or LX at least a little if they want to hit a trail, and that will reduce the ride quality.

Where is a good place to look for 80/100 series LC's besides autotrader? Dealers just don't seem to have them...

Not sure what you and your wife are expecting to encounter while offroad, but here is a video of what a LC is able to tackle with common mods (although it's a 80 series...still awesome to see). Based on reading your posts and replies, you don't seem to be a hardcore crawler (although the LC is usually the choice between the two for this also), so I'm not sure what it is a 100 series can't handle that a LR3 can? The LC 100 was purpose built to take on just about anything any continent can throw at you and get you home safely every time.

What are you calling common mods?

I would say mainly tires. Like I said, you can easily fit 33" tires stock and that will take you mostly anywhere.
