Thoughts on the best 255/85/16s ?

I've read most of the other posts on the BFG, Toyo, Coopers, but I'd still like to hear more especially on the BFG KM2s. I'm now running BFG AT 265/75/16 and I'm not so happy with them. I'd like em tall and skinny like my women ;)

Also, I took a big chunk off the edge of my ATs down to the cords on my last outing, which wasn't very rocky. I've run BFG ATs on most of my trucks and have been pretty satisfied but off road I feel they are not tough enough. I ran 35x12.50 Toyo OC MTs on my Dodge 2500 and while I was very impressed with the toughness, ride, noise level, traction, and wear, I hated the look.

I'm leaning towards the BFG KM2s maybe in an E rating since they are definitley tougher and I often carry a ton of weight (literally). I know I'll give up a lot of low pressure traction with the E stiff sidewalls, but I've taken chunks out of almost every single D rated All terrain I've run.

OK I'm rambling, thoughts on the KM2s or any other 255s

Thanks,

Kye

I would have to say Redline is the tire King around here! He would be a great source to lookup on all his past threads.

Sorry.....still running KM's on my rig.....No help here....

Thanks, yeah I read his thread, very informative and nice pics to boot!

There wasn't much feedback on the noise on the KM2s, anyone running these want to chime in?

Thanks,

I have a second set of steel wheels with 255/85/16 E rated km2s that I run for trips. I really like them although they are heavy on steel! As far as road noise they are not too bad at all. Not to sure I would run them as daily drivers as I think they wear faster than a A/T or road tire and are $$. BTW don't worry about the ride with the E rated tires They are just fine, just don't run them at the 80 psi they say on the sidewall. In fact when I switch back to my stock rugged trails on alloys I feel they are a more harsh ride.

I've got 285/70/17s on my FJC. I haven't had them off-road yet (that will change easter weekend), so all I can comment on is them on-road. I think that for an MT they are quiet, and have good on-road characteristics. They are only slightly louder than the Nitto Terra Grapplers I had on before the KM2s. I spend about 90-95% on my time on-road and went with the KM2s b/c I couldn't afford to have 2 sets of wheels/tires. The only thing that would keep me from getting them again would be the cost. I have heard only great things about their off-road performance, which helped my decision. Hope this helps.

You like them tall and skinny? I got tall and skinny for you: BFG Mud Terrain 235 85 16 (just less than 32"). They almost are too skinny since they look kind of goofy, plus you get no rim protection at all (on my factory rims).
Ride is quiet, wear is very good. I have about 24k miles on them, and I guesstimate they are 60-70 worn.

I will now attempt to post photos:

I am very happy with my BFG KM2s on my rig. They are amazingly quiet for a mud terrain and seem to perform great, though I havent been able to REALLY put them through their paces yet.

I have about 15k on my KM2 255's. I have had them on three different vehicles. They are more quiet than a swamper but still make some noise. I am 4/32nd's down on tread wear from new. I have used them on several trips out to the back country and would give them a 8 out of 10 for performance. I do have some chunks missing from a few rock trips but nothing that would make me concerned. All in all an excellent tire. I do like the Toyo MT alot and hove them in a larger size but, as far as a tire in this size the KM@ gets my vote.

Here are some pics, my first impressions are good. Mind you this is only on the street for a few hours, except for a curb or two ;), The truck is definitely more responsive with the E rated KM2s, the ride doesn't seem to be much rougher, and they don't sound much louder than my ATs.

They look to me like they belong on the truck, the 265/75/16s always looked undersized for the truck, anyway here's some pics: BTW I'm trying photo bucket for the first time, lets see if this works

I'm running these on my 80. Do not like...except for in the dirt. I'd imagine the soft compound and tall stance would do better with the light rear end of the Taco, but the heavy butt of the 80 does not jive well with those two factors at highway speeds. Offroad, they're a dream. Really nice. On road, not so much.
