tire sizes for new england winters

hello everyone, thanks for all the info on my other posts.

sooo i run 33x12.5x15 on my burb for the summer time.
i was thinking of going to 31x10.5x15 or to 265 75 16(stock lt for picks)
i would like to find tires that would be the same height as the 33s but that
will fit on 6-6.5 steel rim. i think 285 would be the size.

i am thinking a narrower tire is better for the winter to cut the snow better.

Absolutely

If you want to stay with 15s 33 x 10.5 or if you go with 16s 255 85 R 16 is a little narrower.

How about a BFG A/T in 33x9.5x15?

We really don't get enough snow to want ot float on top so a narrower tire is usually more helpfull. An M+S with some siping is good because usually you're dealing with icy conditions more than snowy conditions.

Been my experience that wider mud tires are not the best choice.

Narrower is good for general purpose driving on ice and stuff, but if you are planning on driving through deep snow I would recommend keeping the big tire. Bigger is better for deep snow.
