Tires

To add to the discussion of ATs and MTs.... Does anyone have any experience with the Procomp Extreme ATs? I've been running their regular MTs which are good overall, but not so great on wet pavement, and they only last me like 25k miles.

The Extreme ATs took to have an aggressive tread pattern, though still not as open and deep as MTs. They're probably a harder compound since they're rated for minimum 40k miles, which is a big attraction, as well as being 3-ply.

How are the coopers on sand? Where I go offroading they have a lot of wet sand, and that was my biggest downfall last time.

I got some Maxxis Bighorn MTs a few months ago, costed me about $700 for mounting and balancing but they are only 235/75 and not 31 inches. So far they have treated me well, the only time they let me down was on packed snow with rain falling but in conditions like that everyone is going to be slipping.

I think its safe to say your street tires were your biggest downfall last time... :D

ANY MT/AT tire will work loads better in the sand when compared to a street tire, that and airing way down.

i am also considering a change in tread this year... i have a set of BFG A/Ts and they work well for me in my dd and what off roading i do. havn't really challenged them yet.

if i do change- it will be to the M/T KM2- but road noise and wear are my primary concerns with them.

I have the Kumho MT's on my new rig and they are quiet and grip well in snow and sloppy hay fields. I recommend them but my first choice would be the KM2's!

I can tell you from personal experience using 35" KM2's, BFG AT's and the older style MTR's that for mostly on road driving an AT style tread will be much safer, wear better and cost less. The KM2's are almost dangerous on icy or snowy roads and the grippy rubber compound wears quickly, but they rock off road. The new MTR is probably even better off road in certain conditons than the KM2 but again may not have the best on road manners. The price you pay for rock grabbing traction is faster on road wear. The Cooper and Firestone at tires are a great values. Good luck.

Same company, so you might be able to. discounttiredirect.com also usually has cheaper prices than the store it's self, with free shipping.
