Found a new china brand snorkel for my xj for 50 bucks. I. Fear it may crack up or get brittle in he summer heat here but love the look.
What's everyone's opinion? Definitely going for the expo look and my rig gets used that way most definitely! What's everyone's opinion? Do or don't?

Do it...what's fifty bucks? If it is rubbish, looks like it won't hold up when you need it to, or you don't like it...no big loss.

I wouldn't with a knock off. if you have to drill into the body and a legit snorkel doesn't use the same hole you might be SOL

Go for it!! But not for the water but to keep the dust out of your air filter they work good for that and look good to..

He's got a point there...

Ya my reason behind asking..I also just found a arb safari for 200 which seems pretty fair. Shot the guy a 140 dollar offer :coffee:
Ill hold out but my jeep is just gonna go full expo I think. I picked up my custom deavers for the rear. Sat a little high, grabbed some RE 3.5 coils, almost leveled. 31s looked......funny. sold and grabbed some 33x10.5s. Picked up a 8.8, trussed & tubes welded. gearing to 4.56. Detriot trutrac front/Aussie rear. Have both. Anyway, my jeep strayed away from a mild stock looking xj over the last 2 weeks.
Motor and everything yanked now, frames being plated front to rear with 1/8..worth. About 60lbs in weight. 2x6 3/16 rockers & TMRs chassis stiffeners. New motor should pull it all along decently, cams still up for discussion though. Ill start a build thread soon guys. But a full rebuild by summer basically. Internal to external swap for my ax15, re-re-rebuilding he axles lol. Ditching my hidden winch and stock tire carrier setup for some more beef but keeping weight in mind. New paint and a full length roof rack. Ill get a thread running with pictures here soon.

If you are going to TDS out at Ocotillo Wells this weekend we will be there with or 01 xj . Kelly

Haha I wish, its last drive was The hammers will a junkyard motor since my last once tossed the crank pulley. Its now getting its stroker. My rear c8.25 was pulled and is for sale. 29spline, detriot locked. 8.8s taking its place. Interiors stripped for some mostaliner & ceramic roof paint. Body is being painted as well. Probably cheap rustoleum sprayed, henerys ceramic paint for outside & inside the roof. Its finally getting the treatment its deserved lol.

But if you know anyone in need. c8.25, grade 8 9/16 u bolts, detriot, 29spline.

CARB

None of the pre 1991 vehicle year snorkles are CARB approved, if your just attaching it to the stock air box with no other mods you'll be Ok here in California. If you going to change or modify the air cleaner box, be prepared to re-install the stock box every other year.

Thanks,
Fred

Thats good info. I wanted to use a RHD or Diesel snorkel. Mounts on the passenger side of the xj, use a windstar van box or something running over the valve cover to make room for a dual batter setup, but I figured I'd find another way to 2. At least another place to mount it. I'm hoping to snag that ARB snorkel..even at 200 bucks lol.

For a truly water tight set up, I used a cannister model from K &N that connects to the flex hose coming in from the snorkel.

That looks stupid simple! How about filter size? Has it been an issue yet?

K & N certified it is large enough for the 4.0 engine with the rated RPMs., I'm running a 4.6 Golan Stroker and, no it hasn't been an issue, but I not a high rpm guy with this engine. I'm looking for more low end grunt.

Thanks,
Fred
