Toyo OPEN COUNTRY A/T II

Oil eater.
I like them and I can't wait for mine to (eventually...) arrive.

But why do they have to stamp "XTREME" on the side like that?
It looks like something from a Mountain Dew commercial.

Nice tires. Looks like rotor time.

Not much time to drive on them yet but they look even better in person than they do online. They are nice an quiet, and they roll very smooth.

Finally came in yesterday and were mounted last night. A little louder than the AT-1 version but that's to be expected with the "Xtreme" (bigger voids) version.

Hit a little dirt on the way home but nothing to test them.

Well, we went out and got them dirty. Some rocks, hills, a little mud.
I'm quite impressed. I've never had an AT do that well.

Happy customer.

Installed! Took Discount Tire 3-days to get them (285/75R18). Made in the USA. Took minimal lead to balance. And the sidewalls are thick!

So the previous Toyo AT 285/75R17 E rated had a weight rating of 3970 lbs, but the same size current AT2 has a rating of 3195 lbs.

Both E rated, but how/why did they change the tire that much to remove almost 700 lbs of capacity from the tire?

Am I missing something?

Just checked both of mine: My original Toyo Open Country AT in 285/75R18 is rated ("E") at 4,080lbs @ 80psi. Ditto for my new OC AT2 variant.

Just got back from a 1,000 mile trip including highway, fast gravel and melon sized rock trail use and so far so good. The ATII drifts, in the gravel/loose corners, more predictably than its AT predecessor which is a welcome relief. Although not silent running on the highway due to the larger void pattern (compared to the original Toyo Open Country AT in the same size) they are a welcome noise relief from MTs ;) We didn't have any mud to deal with on this run but the tires performed to satisfaction on the more technical and steep trail climbs/descents involving typical rock/dirt mix. Did run through some rain on the highway and they felt secure without any hydroplaning...
