For all who are wondering. .... today I placed an order for 4 cooper Discoverer AT3 in the 255/75r17 variety. I went with this size because it shouldn't rub and should maintain my fuel milage. ...

Now after doing some research i chose to not get an LT..... (flaming can start now) because my owners manual only suggests that your tires exceed half of the weight rating for the axles.

My 4runner is rated for like 3600 lbs for the rear and the AT3 is rated @ 2649.... this is well over half

Oh yea...my current tires are p rated also and have given me no problems for the 30,000 miles I have put on them.

Let us know how you get on with them. I had the stock p rated goodyears fail on me numerous times, so its always LT tires for me.

Well.....the Coopers are on the 4runner finally. Easy install with no complications. Nice and round and balanced with minimal weight. After 300 miles they are nice and quiet, very smooth and seem to do good in sand. I will be able to judge the tires much better after my trip to the Georgia Mountains.
The 255/75 fit very nice with no rubbing.

And heres a poor pic for those who are interested. 2006 4Runner sport w/ 2.5/1.5 leveling kit.

Which cooper you went with? In Halifax we had 4 inches of water in 24h last week. No matter how sharp I was taking turn I never slipped or lost traction. They are terrific for wet traction, and its self cleaning ability in mud are impressive for an A/T. They were expensive however.

YOu should have no issues with those tires at all. only in the mud. They will not do well there, but no AT will. Every other condition you will be good to go.
