Trail Basket on JK with STOCK rear bumper?

Has anyone made a trail basket for their jk that mounts using the receiver? I have a regular basket but I dislike how much I loose of the approach angle. I was thinking about making an extension to lift it up higher. Has anyone done anything like this? Pictures a plus

Only problem could be raising it up brings it into the path of the tailgate and tire combo if anything of height is put in the carrier

I don't mind that part, the basket loaded at normal height is in the way of that stuff. I was thinking about making and L shaped extension that went up part way with a receiver sleeve welded to it, then another L shaped piece that would drop in. Then in theory I could make the basket face away from the jeep or towards it over the bumper. Then I could make different extensions that could go on top instead of the basket. I dont know if that idea would work, or really how tough it would be. Everything rattles in receivers so I was thinking maybe 2 turnbuckles to pull it tight to the receiver?

Would it be too much weight too high?

Too much weight on the tailgate makes them sag and breaks the latch. I am trying to avoid that. Especially since I will be carrying fuel on it.

Being a creative tinker.. when we needed to carry a few thing outside the jeep.. I purchased a metal tire mounted bike rack, angled the arms to support a plastic storage box, mounted the box with U bolts and let it go.. The issue I ran into is when the rack would bounce around.. the load would shift to one side or another.. it's like I couldn't keep the straps (which held the rack onto the tire) tight enough. We don't like those rectangular metal trays that mount into the hitch receiver.. they stick out too far.. The only other option is to install the HighRock storage tray system within the open area of the roll cage behind the rear seat. Along with this.. Highrock has an alternate mount that can be located just above the open area for a small roof rack. But the issue with the rack mounting hardware is that it is very heavy.. made with powder coated steel tubes.. I'll be redesigning this setup and incorp aluminum lacrosse poles as a suitable and lighter replacement.

I thought about something like that but I hate carrying fuel inside the jeep. But maybe I can do that and still find a way to keep the cans outside

i made this for my YJ but now i use it on my JK.... i have to load everything first because it obviously interfers with the rear door.... i also wired trailer lights to it as on the YJ it was right at the height of the doors.... it was tall enough to keep everything dry even when river crossing....
