trailer winch batteries

I am putting a winch on a car trailer, which is better:
Option 1 - dual starting batteries in parallel
Option 2 - two six volt golf cart batteries in series

Option 2 is better for deep cycle applications, but what about winching?

Depends on the load. Do you need a ton of amps for a very short time (heavy pull), or less amps for a longer time?

Its going to be a 8k winch on a flat bed trailer. Most of the hard work will be using it to pull logs onto the trailer. Due to the limited charge capacity of trailer connectors, I am looking for enough reserve to get through the day, and then charge the batteries.

I was pretty sure that most winches recommend starting batteries due to the high current draw when the winch gets close to stalling. Deep Cycles provide low current flow over a long time, and are not recommended for winching applications.

My idea...
Could be completely off but,
Wire up a blueseas 7622 and run an Anderson plug to and from the trailer to keep the battery charging while driving to and from your work AND if the battery runs low during your work then just start up the vehicle.

Golf cart batteries for that. Trojan T105s can handle a 100a load. But a Warn 8k can draw 450a pulling 8k lbs.

So four batteries, not two. And a snatch block doubleback can cut the load on the winch in half.

What I would do: Run 2 short 2' pieces of 2/0 welding cable, with lugs, from Vehicle battery to a SB350 Anderson Powerpole plug. Make an identical setup for your trailer battery. Then measure how far it is from the trailer battery plug to your vehicle battery plug. Then get enough 2/0 welding cable to go from 1 SB350 plug to the other and make up another set of SB350 Anderson Powerpole plugs on each end. When you are using the winch for an extended period of time and/or heavy loads, just plug one battery into the other while vehicle is running. This is how I have my 2nd/aux battery hooked up on our Power Wagon. I also have the SB350 Anderson Powerpole handle on one of the plugs to make it easy to just grab & unplug it (the other plug is bolted to a secure surface). Easy peasy. Plug it in when you need it, unplug it when you dont. Those plugs only go in 1 way, so can not accidentally hook + to -.
