Albeit I have not gotten up close and personal with the Gobi, if the rack is well built, to many, quality is paramount to price. Anything from AU or SA will be 90% as costly as if were made up the street from you.
FWIW here are some approximate retail cost of other full sized non asian make expedition racks:
Front runner ~1,200
African outback ~1,200
Hannibal ~1,600
So IMO, it isn't that out of whack
I REALLY wanted an OA but Slee was pretty much done with'm by the time I could pull the trigger on one. My FR wind cheetah is great, no complaints. And lots of gizmos to bolt on.
