jcbrandon- Picons are EVIL, Like DEVIL!! You will have to ask my buddy about picons and the basquo fiasco in winnemucca in the late 90's :friday:

All I have to say is moving blankets and a pickup bed!! My mom asking who was sleeping in my truck :sombrero:

I love louie's, It is a close second to the Martin hotel in Williwonka. I went to school there, so I am a buckaroo at heart!!

Cruiser Outfit-

We will roll through motello. I'll keep in touch....

For the other NV boys... I told my roommate (expedition partner) that I have to drive the dust pit between the dry lakes, about a mile east of the black rock springs. I love getting down and dirty in that bad boy.:safari-rig:

The best part about the time of yeaR will be the wild flowers. I am really stoked to find the obsidian fields near chimeney reservoir, my dad showed me a killer indian spear point area in the area.

It has been 18 months since I have been out for a week, I am getting really excited and freaky, is thais normal? Sure I have been out on the weekends a lot, but not a 10 day trip. I gotta get out of my cubicle.

Mike- You did coin the term, you get full credit. I said it to Grady, and he lowered his head, so it stuck :D
Cool!

not when they have salmonella:smilies27

The tomato is getting an air locker in the back :bike_rider: should be done by friday. We got all the air lines and electrics ran this last week.

Jcbrandon- I have eaten at the Star before, but it was years ago.... Is that the place with the big polar bear?

The polar bear is at the Commercial Hotel casino, I think. The Star is a much smaller place a couple of blocks away. A lot of folks claim it has the best Basque food in Nevada. I'm partial to the JT in Gardnerville.

Bummer...we'll be roaming around Utah and Arizona when you come through Reno...otherwise I'd look forward to meeting you.

Have heard JT's has slipped a notch or two lately. And the Martin and Ormachea's in Winnemucca seem to alternate 'firing on all 8' at the same time/all the time; dined at Ormachea's last year several times and it was tops.

But no trip to Winnemucca is complete without a stop for a margarita from Jose at Los Margarita's. And their food is pretty good too! Nice espresso cafe in Winn too...in fact there are some pretty good places to eat in Winn!

It's been a few years since I ate at the Star...but friends in Elko tell me it's still the bomb!

Have fun!

I wonder, did the Tomato pick up Salmonilla on the Trail 404 run in the tight section. That log that jumped out and ate Grady's door MAY have been tainted. :victory:
If you don't have your SPOT up and going by then let me know and I'd be happy to let you borrow it so we can all live vicariously through you!

BTW, your old dog was a beaut. Just an amazing looking dog. RIP.

The Other cruiser

Hello all, I'm Rob (the other guy on the trip). I have actually done this trip 4 times. In answer to a few questions, some of the more difficult parts can be from the border all the way to wildhorse. It is highly dependent upon which roads we decide to travel. We can make it as difficult or as easy as we want to. I am a little worried about snow still on the eastern mountains...I saw no shortage of it from the plane. I generally choose roads at random, though I do use maps to make sure they "supposedly" go over (they do not always, even if it shows it does on a map). I'm worried most about exiting jarbridge as we take a road due west over a high pass that drops directly into the bruneau river...its not super challenging, but it is steep, and if covered with snow and mud, may be scary as the dropoff on the side goes down for thousands of feet. I'm hoping that we are not too early for the good wildflowers this year as its been a long cold winter, and they may not start appearing in earnest in the higher elevations until after july 4th. Anyway, its a good trip and I have a few pictures of some of it at....

Dog nab it, wish I was joining DsrtSage and Dlbrunner on this trip but I'm stuck in PA (where DsrtSage will be joining me for work here shortly as well)!!!

Sorry to hear about Sonoma passing bro, he was an exceptional lad and will be missed sorely. We all had some good times in the past. I'm very sad indeed. His spirit lives on.

I wish you guys a great trip and MAYBE next year I can join this run. I know, I know, I've been saying it for the last five years.....

ugg. packing, getting groceries etc... I always underestimate the preparation time. Luckily I have chipping away all week.

Got the Air lines finished and the ARB tested tuesday, so we have been cutting things close.

Can't wait to point the truck north tomorrow.

Upcruiser- We are meeting a buddy at noon in wells, should be in Montello between 2 and 4 PM (sounds like the cable guy right?)

Ali- you know you would love it, chaos always happens when Rob and I get together, right?!?!?!?

Its all good though, in 24 hours we should have 300 odd miles behind us and closing on Ely, NV :safari-rig:
