one thing i've found when doing a multi-day trip is that a single garbage bag with any sort of organic waste in it (even a few drops of juice, yogurt container residue, etc) will stink terribly after day 2, and every time you open it you have to smell it. some people i know religiously rinse their trash to avoid this.
instead, i have been purchasing these 3 gallon trash bags with integrated handles: http://www.amazon.com/Sunbeam-Trashrac-Trash-Bags-Gal/dp/B003PBF6ZA/
i use one each day and then tie it up closed with the handles at the start of the next day. you could throw each one into a trasharoo if you have it... i find i am able to pack them into little spaces around the other supplies so that i don't have a single huge trash bag that i need to find room for.
