Toyota has released photos of a TRD version of the FJ Cruiser. The truck will be introduced at SEMA. No word on pricing.

Saw this at the FJ Summit in July, had a few different things on it like a supercharger (hence the FJ-S designation), TRD brakes, different shocks, worthless brush guard, IIRC it had leather seats, new style wheels which look good but would prefer some other color than black and KM2's instead of the usual AT's that they put on the Trail Teams. Also heard there were some frame mods but don't know what they are. It look nice but nothing really special IMO.

This truck is tame by SEMA standards. That probably means Toyota is planning to offer a production version.

Doesn't Get Out Enough
The color looks like the standard 'Quicksand', which isn't a bad thing on its own. They're calling it the FJ-S because it's supercharged. This must be the debut of the TRD Supercharger for 2010-On FJs. Except for that the truck Looks like a rolling showcase of TRD Accessories without the fancy vinyl wrap that comes with every other SEMA vehicle.

From AutoWeek - http://www.autoweek.com/article/20121026/SEMA/121029889

"Toyota will bring a Toyota Racing Development-tuned version of its FJ off-roader to the 2012 SEMA show. The Baja-themed SUV concept will get more power, a better suspension, a unique exterior treatment and 17-inch beadlock wheels.

TRD started by upgrading the body for extreme off-road duty with an underbody exoskeleton. Toyota says the extra bracing makes the FJ more suitable for wheel, tire and suspension upgrades.

The front suspension uses 60 mm Bilstein shocks with a 1.3-inch lift and ¾-inch articulation. The rear shocks measure 50 mm with one inch of articulation and remote reservoirs. Midnight black 17-inch beadlock wheels clamp on to BFGoodrich all-terrain tires.

The engine was enhanced with a Twin Vortex supercharger from TRD and a new air-to-water intercooler. Those improve the output to 345 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. The base FJ has 260 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. A cat-back exhaust was installed for better sound.

As for visual upgrades, the FJ gets a push bar and rock rails on the outside and two-tone leather in the cabin. Seats and floor mats get FJ-S logos.

The TRD Toyota FJ Cruiser will take the stand in Las Vegas on Tuesday."

And while those wheels look better than the standard fare, they sure don't look like beadlocks...

But hey, how 'bout that Pro Bass Anglers Tundra. Apologies if this makes your lunch reappear...

Not too terribly impressed.

Thought the FJ was going to cease production at one time? We could only hope. LOL :snorkel: That drive train needs to find its way into the Tacoma.

As for the Tundra, going after the Bubba market I see...it does make sense though, since the Tundra does resemble a bass...

I think they need more LED lighting on the side of the roof rack though....good lord! LOL, is it so you can read the house numbers better on your
McMansion when you drive past it for the 9th million time...since you can't tell them apart otherwise?

Remove rear seats and profit. I have o idea how you guys with wives and kids do it.

The FJ is a single man's ride.

One Crazy FJ
Honestly, that TRD edition might impress the uninformed SEMA crowd, but there is nothing really new here.

I love my FJ Cruiser, and have worked on hundreds of them - they are amazing off-road vehicles, but...

We've been installing the TRD superchargers on FJ Cruisers for 6 years, taking off Toyota Bilstein shocks to install real off road suspension components (i.e. Icon Vehicle Dynamics products), and the wheels are not real beadlocks (they are cast one-piece wheels). The TRD exhausts of the past have added zero horsepower - just a sound change and a chrome tip (not exactly off-road friendly, either). And that front guard will get destroyed on the first trail...

For the price you'll pay to get that package from a dealer (especially after the mark-up they'll add to unsuspecting folks not familiar with aftermarket products), you could build a more serious off-road machine.

I would throw the leather seats away, they are useless on a vehicle that sees dirt and lots of camping trips.

I dig the waterproof cloth seats in my 2007 FJ, and they clean up very easily with just a vacuum cleaner.
