TRD or clean slate

For the price of the TRD package, you could buy 10 ARB air lockers.

I paid less than $3k for the TRD Package. And there's a bunch more than just ATrac, Locker and Suspension. Plus the upgraded TRD components sell for bank. My stock suspension components covered 50% of the upgraded suspension cost. The wheels fetched $400 by themselves (new ones cost $600). Stock BFG Tires another $400 (nearly 50% of new tire replacement cost). Battery sold for $60 (helped fund Odyssey battery). Stock rear bumper $200 (covered 1/3 of new bumper cost). Skid plates $60 (helped cover aftermarket). Mud Flaps $80 (free money). I've easily sold the "upgraded" TRD stuff for well over $1,500 (not everything is listed).

Plus I get all these great features (see bold items):

V6 Tow Package 21 for Off-Road Package includes Class-IV towing receiver hitch
Transmission and supplemental oil coolers
130-amp alternator
heavy duty battery
7-pin connector with converter
Trailer-Sway Control (TSC) 22 [TW]
TRD Off-Road Package-Off-road-tuned suspension with Bilstein® shock absorbers
electronically controlled locking rear differential
16-in. alloy wheels with P265/70R16 BFGoodrich® tires
Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) (4x4 models only) with Hill Start Assist Control
Engine skid plate, front tow hook
115V/400W deck-mounted AC power outlet
fog lamps
remote keyless entry system
cruise control
variable-speed windshield wipers
overhead console with maplamps and sunglasses storage
chrome grille surround and rear bumper
color-keyed front bumper and overfenders
sliding rear window with privacy glass
Sport fabric-trimmed front Sport seats with driver's lumbar support
metallic interior trim
leather-trimmed steering wheel with audio controls
leather-trimmed shift lever (automatic transmission models only)
dual sun visors with sliding extensions and vanity mirrors
auto-dimming rearview mirror with integrated backup camera 7 display
compass, outside temperature gauge and Homelink® universal transceiver 12
TRD Off-Road Graphics

Is all that worth $1,500 to me?? Heck yeah. There's no way you could add those items aftermarket for the $1,500 additional cost (after deducting stock sold parts). BTW: Atrac is very effective (and I'm coming from a truck with dual ARBs). Plus, it's all under warranty. :)

Montypower, that sounds good, I guess I am just behind the times, I've always gone with the K.I.S.S. system. Heck this is the first truck I've owned that has power windows. As someone else said earlier in this thread, put it in 4 low and crawl. And yes, I still use a cooler, truck does not have a fridge.

I just switched from a base package 2009 regular cab tacoma 4wd. I took one test drive in a 2010 double cab trdoffroad. WOW.

V6 = awesome. More room, more power, a BACKUP CAMERA! Plus with the a-trac, locker, downhill assist, ect, ect, the TRD Offroad is a no brainer.

lol

quite a bit of that I got on my 4x4 and really isn't part of a TRD package........like cruise control or variable speed wipers, tow package, keyless entry, etc.

The rest made no difference to me or I put in my own for cheaper. The inverter for instance, I have a 1000W I installed. My OME suspension is lightyears better than the TRD or stock suspension.

I have an '07, none of that on mine. Frankly I am not a fan of atrac and whatever else is on the later trucks. Driving skills, 4 wheel drive, ABS disable mod and lockers will get you anywhere the rig is able to go.

Sure, lockers are great, and I'm not disputing that fact. Guess what I'm trying to say is, ATRAC is also a very useful tool, and in some instances, work much better than locker(s). If I could only have one, it would probably be lockers. But if I could have both? Why not? You can buy a retrofit lockers, but not ATRAC. For the minimal amount (IMO) extra for the TRD package, it is well-worth it.

By the way, all you grouchy luddites in here, get off that fancy-schmancy computing machines and go plow a field or something. Or I'm sure there are a ton o' sticks that need whittlin'.

My 1972 FJ55 has a rear locker, but my Taco does not. I haven't been denied yet, in either rig. When finances allow for it, I will by an ARB for the Tacoma.

The yellow wire mod for the ATRAC is cool.
