My Wife's Sister just moved not far from the North Rim and I have been trying to get back that way for a long time. Maybe I can talk the wife to a road trip and see her sister & Family along the way. Your pictures are great. Hard to describe to her what I saw the last time I was there. 25 years ago! I'm not a picture guy, and camera technology has some a long way!
What day were you at Kodachrome Basin SP? We were there the night of Memorial Day and think we saw you (I took a picture of what I think is your rig, will post it up when I find it). We took a drive down Cottonwood Canyon that afternoon trying to reach the arch, but wisely decided to turn back about half way as the road was getting more slippery and it was clearly raining to the East. We did cross that creek twice and almost didn't make it up the bank on the way back. I completely agree with the comments on the Bentonite Clay.
Allan,
Nice build and wonderful pix and travelog. It is hard to beat that part of the country for exploring byways. Under certain conditions, like the weather related ones you endured, these are fine teachers about what recovery equipment to take and what to leave behind.
Congrats, you are a rare explorer indeed.
regards, jefe
We too, hit a little flash flood trying to get to Goler Wash in Death Valley.
Even after getting up Goler wash the going was not much easier:
