Triumph to offer new adventure touring model

I can't be the only one who thinks they "borrowed" thye design from the bmw 800 gs. Other than the exhaust (opposite side) and a few other items these bikes look like a freaking replica (aka rip off) of the gs ?

Buying a first generation bike for long distance travel would not be a wise choice. I'll be interested to revisit this bike in a few years once the "bugs" have been worked out.

Just an opinion :ylsmoke:

I agree... This bike looks great on paper. But time will tell.
Meantime this beast is set to launch in the US.

This bike is kinda a new thing, but kinda not. It also looks great. Both the Super Tenere and the new Triumph are going to steal sales from BMW.

Im looking forward to riding both.

Phil Evans from london-bangkok-by-motorcycle.com is going to open a thread in the in-progress adventures section and tell us about the trip and how the 800XC really does when it has big panniers and a ton of gear strapped on.

Should be interesting to see how his impressions compare to ours when we test one in California in July.

The reviews of the Triumph 800XC are coming in. Particularly interesting are the comparisons with the BMW F800GS, a proven adventure touring bike in the same price range.

The review on Motorcycle.com compares the two, and rates the 800XC better on pavement, while the F800GS gets the nod on unpaved roads

On Hell For Leather (subscription required), the 800XC has the edge off road because the 3 cylinder engine is more tractable at low revs, requiring less clutch slipping. The author thinks both bikes are geared too high in stock form for much off-pavement riding.

Motorcycle News has a Youtube video. They give the edge to the Triumph on road, BMW off road and on fuel economy.

Interesting Blog with some very good insight into the bikes, particularly coming from a pair of BMW owners. They also have a thread on ADV rider which I cannot unfortunatly link to since I am at work and ADV is blocked.

The main hangup with the new Tigers seems to be the stalling issue which has come to light and has yet to be resolved by Triumph. Seems to be a FI issue related to parts, mapping, or both. Seems to be a small percentage affected, but true numbers are difficult to estimate based on internet forum posts. Most of the affected owners are happy with the bike overall, just frustrated and impatient for Triumph to figure out a 100% fix.

Mine doesn't stall, knock on wood, and I couldn't be happier with the bike.:roost:
