Why not an excursion four wheel drive small lift tires straight pipe and tune and you can get good fuel economy and it's quite spacious

Great suggestions all.

But I do have an update....I couldn't resist this. Price was right, and it is ready to roll. I'm sure I'll occasionally want the off-road ability of the Trooper or Montero...but I *think* more often I'll prize the interior volume (with swivel seats already installed) of this guy.

Basic details: 130K. First 122 were easy grandma miles. Last 8K saw modifications. 2nd Owner bought an AWD Express so this had to go. 3.5" lift (pucks up front, HD leafs + coil overs in the rear), roof racks galore, swivel front seats, 275/75/15 tires (stock is 215/70).

If it gets the job done! Those were AWD and not 4WD, correct? I'm also deciding on what to build for my exploring/bug out from life vehicle. I'm leaning to a Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban though, mainly for the low buy in, parts availability and aftermarket support.

Correct, AWD not 4WD. My silly little mind is already thinking about adding in a PowerTrax No Slip, or even more ambitiously a Blazer transfer-case swap for true 4x4 and some manual hubs. But I'm going to sit on those ideas for a while while I do all the baselining on this vehicle including more involved preventative maintenance like a new fuel pump (I didn't like being stranded when my last one went.)

Tahoe/Yukon were on my too-consider list too, but given the availability of Trooper and Monteros, their reliability and relatively low-buy in the Chevy/GMC were further down the list.

Nice. For what you will use it for:
_
Typical usage: My weekend and adventure rig. Carry 4 people to the ski hill. Drive up a lot of Forest Service roads easily. Not be too much of a handful on the highway. Ability to tackle mild to moderate off road trails -- to get places, not to challenge my driving / vehicle (i.e. overlanding, not rock crawling.) Sleep 2 on a platform in back with at least a bit of head space.
_
I think that will be a great vehicle.
