Trouble wiring a fantastic fan need help.

I went to Camping World and drop some coin on a Fantastic Fan. Specifically, I purchased the 4000r. I was out the door $144.00 later. I have a 2007 FWC Hawk with two vents. I figured I'd swap the vent for a fan in the front sleeping area. Swapped out the Dome, installed the "guts", wired it up and nothing. Checked it with a volt meter and you guessed it...nothing. Just so I'm clear, it was the yellow and black behind the vent plate. I pulled the plate on the #2 vent and it reads 12.5 volts. Now for my question-- Has anyone ever fished or pulled wire thru the headliner material? It looks like there is aluminum braces running parallel and perpendicular. I just don't want to make a mess of things. So, does anyone have any suggestions for a plan of attack?

Best Regards,

did you try it with the vent open? it's got some switch which won't allow it to work without being open a few inches.

Hey bphang10, Thanks for the reply. Its not a button issue because the dome isn't open far enough. I just don't have power coming out of the factory wiring that is run before the headliner is attached. Stan suggested I contact Terry at FWC and I did so today. Terry thought the wire behind the push plate that holds the camper top up might have worn the wire thru. Apparently it can happen. FWC attaches the wire harness for everything on the roof (overhead lights, pre-wiring for solar and the fan to the back side of the push board. I thought that was the problem because I didn't have overhead lights either. But, I realized the lights didn't work because the fuse was blown. Funny thing was it didn't look blown either but when I swapped it out Viola- I had lights but still no volts at the fan(pre-wiring). I spliced a section of wire in below the roof line and the fan works fine. Through a process of elimination it can only be the yellow(hot). It must be compromised somewhere in the roof. The headliner is still in really good shape and I hate to start trying to pull or push wire thru it--there's to much foam and aluminum in there. Also, a thanks to you Stan your the man! Terry said he would get back to me and I'm sure he will. Maybe he will have a suggestion or possibly someone else will chime in.
Thanks,

Longboardcr,

I replaced my vent with a 4000 (I think it's an R), it's a 3 speed with reverse, fantastic fan a few months ago. Look at your fuses to see if one blew. This happened to me. Wired the fan to the yellow/black wire and thought I was good to go. Put it all in place... NO power to the fan ugh!!! I had a blown fuse. Replaced the fuse with a new one and power restored. Also, the fans (this style) have a auto shut down mode. The dome must be open 2-3 inches for the power to activate the blade. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion NorCalHawk. I am aware of the button requiring the dome to be open. I also checked and rechecked the fuses but still don't have power to the vent. I spoke to Terry at FWC and he said the main power line running thru the roof has a Scotch lock connecting another wire to the vent. I am certain that the splice is bad because everything else above the roof line works. One suggestion he gave me was to excise the top of the roof by pull the screws and ban around the sheet mental on the outside which would expose the wires leading to the vent. UGG! I was thinking I would hide another power wire behind the wood slats but when I started pulling on them the staples pull thru. So, then I was thinking I'd just rip some new slats(maybe teak). I'll make them slightly thinker, route out the back to hide the wire to the vent and screw them into the aluminum ribs. I am taking a week to camp in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. So, I moved the fan above the kitchen area and had it running in 10 minutes. Maybe I'll post a few pictures of the final install in case someone wants to do new slats or fix a sagging headliner. Life's too short to lose any sleep over it though.

Cheers,
