Truck camper options for a stepside??

After searching i am not showing much. looking to see what options there are for a stepside truck. I have changed the build of my truck from offroader/hauler to mild offroader/exploration/hauler. The idea of a slide in seems real nice to me and depending on what seaaonal work i can find i could be living in one all next summer.

I think a pop up style would work well.

did anyone make these??

new is way out of my budget!!!

maybe a midsize unit would fit??

Truck is a 77 chevy with k20 axles and suspention (3/4 ton). 6 ft factory stepside bed. Already has a fiberglas truck cap but looking for something better.

Thanks for any input. Build thread to come soon.....

I was under the impression that the step side beds are the same width as the wheel wells are apart on a cameo bed. I know there are some campers that get wider at the rear since they dont have to slide between the wheel well, but i thing most would fit into a stepside.

If that ends up not being the case, I am sure one of the campers for a mini truck would fit.

Here are a couple pictures I found years ago of a square body stepside with a Four Wheel Camper. I would think any camper would fit as the inside of the wheel wheels should be the same width as thebrassknuckles mentioned. Campers looks sweet on stepsides but the downside would be lack of storage between the camper and bedsides.

Not at all, it just allows for the use of boxes!

Haha, right…. But, I highly doubt you could even find those side boxes to bolt on an old stepside bed and even if you did, you wouldn’t really have a stepside when you are done now would you? The one in your picture doesn’t really look like a factory stepside bed with the side boxes anyway as LWB ¾ ton stepsides were very rare……that looks like the real deal utility bed to me but I get your point.

thanks guys. found a free pop top slide in on cregslist. need to see if its 6 or 8 foot. Of course i will messure but seems finding a slide in might be easier then i thought!!.

truck is lifted and on 35"s but should work well.

thanks for the input!

If that craigslist thing doesn't pan out for you, a guy down the street from my parents has one up for sale. I need to double check the measurements, but it looks like it would be the right size for what you are looking for.
