Tundra to tow Space Shuttle

I'm afraid I have to go with Scott C on this one.

While it's understandable that some may have never seen the shuttle piggybacked on the 747, I would hope that most people with common sense would not think it landed there to refuel. I mean, seriously.

Humbug. Cut Turbolab some slack. Being in Canada, probably the only thing he knows about the American Space Shuttle is that the robotic arm is Canadian. :)

Really, it's a fair question.

So sad to see this. To know that i will NEVER get to see a shuttle launch in person is a painful and ****ty reality. I wish i was born 40 years ago :(

I am also from Canada and the flow of knowledge does not stop at the border. We know far more about you than you do about us. Our igloos have satellite TV.

And as a Canadian, he should know that that's not how you refuel the space shuttle. Unless he lives under a rock.

The rig that's getting the Shuttle to the Science Center you may note has a total number of zero trucks pulling it. That's because the rig itself is made up of four independent tractor units that provide the motive force.

So, if this is the rig that will be used when the Tundra is hitched up, we can reasonably conclude that Toyota has proven that the Tundra is the equal to the work that can be done by zero trucks.

From what Ive heard of our local news around here.. That rig that is carrying it MOST of the way to its new home is not an "Approved vehicle" to meet the CalTrans specs of a vehicle allowed to cross the bridge over the 405 freeway. So the Tundra is just pulling it across the final bridge I believe (because the Tundra is a standard approved vehicle for the CalTrans specs). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.. but that's the last thing I remember reading about it.

Im sure given the hundreds of THOUSANDS of dollars put into the controlled rig it's currently on, they didnt WANT to have to deal with putting it onto a whole different trailer setup and have a truck pull it. Their IDEAL situation would have been to drive the thing all the way there on their one rig.

But.. regulations and such permit.. Has to be a vehicle allowable to cross CalTrans built and maintained bridges.
As for why Toyota got first dibs (American shuttle, I wouldve hoped maybe an American built muscle would pull it - but whatever), supposedly Toyota has donated millions of dollars (over the history of the Science Museum) to their whole cause, so they were first choice.

are you really suggesting that they can cut down the what, 300 trees to make room for the shuttle, to move a piece of american history, but they have a Tundra pulling it the last bit across the bridge cuz they dont have a permit? Not because toyota wants the PR show?

Think about it.
