Need to have? Maybe want.... I fit that bill. I'll always choose the V8 if it's an option.

I use to feel that way too... and then I was handed the keys to an EcoBoost powered truck for a few years. Unless they make a V8 EcoBoost, I'll probably never own another V8 powered truck again.

Wow, what started as a debate has turned into heated discussion. There both good trucks; both have strong, and weak points. Rite tool for the rite job, but I will keep watching this thread. Both sides have valid arguments, guess it falls into personal preference. My opinion give me four wheels, and I'm good.

Yep, different strokes for different folks. That's why it's nice to have options.

By the time I'm ready to do anything there will probably be new generations of Tundra's and F-150's out.

So a whole new series of debates will have ensued by then! lol

I will admit I have never driven the eco boost, but I want to. Drove a tundra liked it a lot, now I just have to get my a** behind the wheel of a eco boost. Have a friend who has one he swears by it.

If you really want to be impressed, put a heavy trailer behind it. While they are awesome empty, where they truly shine is under load.

Definitely!!! Since I bought my 2017 they have added the 10 speed and dual injection to the 2.7. I can only imagine what is in the pipeline.

Hybrid, Electric, possible IRS... I think all of those have been captured in spy shots. Who knows what's coming.

I'd love to have IRS. It's already under the Excursion... makes sense that it will find it's way under the F150.

It's an engineering problem that I'm sure can be figured out, re; towing. Air bags come to mind, but I'm sure there are other options too....

I don't want air bags. They don't work well in this climate. Compressors breaking etc... A guy I know wants out of his Ram limited because every time it gets cold here his air suspension fails and it costs him a g-not in his shop. I had a Caddy with air suspension. It used to fail and the bags would get stuck inflated so it looked like a 70's hot rod. I see numerous Envoy's, Trailblazers, land rovers, etc.... draggin their butts due to failed air suspension systems. K.I.S.S. Keep it simple stupid.....

Dodge seems to have no problems towing with rear coils.
I see lots of 1500 Ram's squatting while towing appropriate length trailers. (Maybe overweight? can tell)

The Cherokee, Explorer and Suburban I had all had coils and I towed with them. I know you can tow with coils. I just prefer not to if given the choice.

I find this truck with leafs seems to handle weight better.

Again, personal preference. If I can choose a truck with leafs, that's the way I'll go.

What does "If you need a V8" mean?

That statement was running under the assumption that the V8 tows more than the V6. I have since learned that the 3.5 tows more, so I stand somewhat corrected.

All I'm getting at is that the comparison is flawed, as the Tundra doesn't come with a turbo'd V6. And if that's your point of comparison, you should probably buy the F150 over the Tundra.

My seat time in ecoboost fords is limited overall, but I have been impressed. And honestly when I have the need for a full size, I will be debating this exact thing and I don't know what I'll choose. My gut tells me to run with the truck that I know will last me for 15+ years and still hold some reasonable resale value.
