Had to click that link because I had trouble believing it when I saw it. Someone shoe-horned a sb 350 into a fronty.

Nice.

If the VK56 fits, a pushrod V8 will fit with no issues. lol

FWIW, I'll swap that stillborn Cummins V6 in my X in a heartbeat.

That sounds like something nissan should have done in the first place. I like diesel, and I think it is the way of the future. Count me in if we can figure out a kit.

A four cylinder cummins would fit good. You could take it to a shop that does conversions like that. ohh cummins xterra :Wow1:

As someone pointed out, the small block chevy will fit. That means pretty much any of the smaller diesels should be workable. Maybe not the 10-cyl ones, though...

Personally, I'm waiting to see what the Nissan LCV engines look like. Word is that there will be 2 Cummins engines, probably their new V6 and V8 TD setups. :victory:

Since it's (sort of) Alpha platform, the engines will fit, it will mostly be a matter of transmission adaptors. And Nissan usually has swapable bellhousings on the auto's, so the AT guys might have a pretty easy go at it. Not so much for the 6 speed people. . .

the Patrol is rumored to be coming ot the USA in late 2010. Rumor is it replaces the Armada and Infinity. Unsure still if it has solid front and rear axles. Engines have been confirmed though with a v6 diesel in the line up that has impressive figures.

Why not simply import a TD42 Patrol engine, tranny and T-case and drop it all in the X? Do an Ebay.au (australia) search for TD42, lots on there often, some for really cheap.

That would work, but shipping might be a mother and local laws can get very sticky here. Certain states don't allow engine swaps on later model vehicles (I believe VA is in this category) even if the emissions are lower. You can replace the engine, just not put in a different engine. Mind you, someone who's got much more knowledge than me can correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember reading about that somewhere on one of these forums. But in terms of overall cost, finding the drivetrain here for something that'd work and then doing the SAS and changing out the entire drivetrain, while probably a bit more expensive, might be easier long term due to better availability of parts, no?

I'd also guess that we don't see SFA vehicles from Nissan here. The ride would be too truckish for those target markets.

I had researched this quite a bit a few years back. If you are running a first gen xterra, then your best bet is to source a swap out of brasil. They actually offered it in the Xterra (not sure if they still do) with a turbo diesel. If I remember correctly it is the same motor that Roseanne just had TLC do to her 60 Series LC. The motor is made by MWM which is a fully owned subsidiary of Navistar. The motor is backed by your choice of an automatic or 5 speed getrag transmission. Good videos of it on youtube. This would be your best bet for a clean/complete swap, but figuring it all out wouldn't be nearly as fun. No way to tell if it is plug and play until you have the two vehicles side by side and start tearing into things.

I was going to suggest that because obviously the Frontier comes with a diesel overseas. I am sure it would be easier to drop in, wiring probily be the worst to deal with. But I figure if importing and engine why not get the bigger meaner TD42!? :)

Same reason you can't stuff the Toyota 4.2L TD I6 in to a Mini-truck. You run out of hood/engine bay with the big inline motor. I like the way you're thinking but I4 or V6 swaps seem to be the best for those of us with shorter engine bays. I would tend to advise Nissan folks to stay away fromt he 3.0L TD that was offered in the patrol I belive for awhile...

Cheers
