Well, my Yari II Drop-point finnaly showed up and it is AWESOME!!!! But then just on a whim Whitney (my GF) brought home one of their new fixed blades AND one of their civilian leagal versions of their auto-knives. This one uses the Gerber F.A.S.T. system that makes it fairly close to a switchblade, you just have to open it with the thumb-stud and after you get it out a tiny bit it flips open. Pretty cool and as with all gerber products, it's made VERY VERY well.
Here's the Answer featuring F.A.S.T. technology: I hate to say it, but I can'r decide on wich to carry, this new knife or my old stand-by Torch II...so I carry both HAHAHAHAHA yeah I'm that guy with TWO big knives in my pockets...
This is the Yari II: Let me just say, this is one of the most expensive things in the employee catalog... and it's even more spendy if you don't have this hook-up. I about spit out my beer when I found out how much it cost retail...BUT, it is again VERY well made and made here in Portland OR (oddly enough I had to order one and it came from a warehouse in Tenesee...) It has a really neat sheath that can be mounted on a Molle vest, a Hand gun holster, verticaly adn horizontaly on your belt and to your thigh/calf... you can also just put it in the sheath and NOT snap the keeper strap over the handle, it's held in the sheath by a friction lock kind of like a dive knife so you can get it out in a flash. One of Whit's co-workers son's is in Iraq and after getting his Yarii the whole unit ordered them. Gerber apparently set them up free of charge adn they all now carry them as well as the Gerber LMF infantry knife, but the Yarii is apparently theor favorite knife ever. I can vouch for it's awesomeness
It's got a sold aluminum handle so it's VERY tough. Great field knife IMO.
BUT!!! the real suprise to me was teh Metolious Fixed blade. It has a really comfy handle adn the back edge of the blade has a "grip" section so you can use your thumb to control the knife. it really has suprised me and turned out to be one of my fav's even though it's nowhere near the technicaly brilliant knife the Yarii is... just goes to show you, cost ain't everything eh.
Here they are together to give you and idea of size between the two.
I'm really looking forward to using these knives in the field more and letting you all know how they hold up. I'm a bit of a knife nut, I love them all, but I have my favorites...
