Two Years Living On Two Wheels...And Counting

I stayed there and "respected their 3 beer limit" twice over several hours. When it was time to start hunting a campsite the owner told me that he owned the lot right next to the brewery and that I was welcome to stay there for free if I wanted to. (He had plans to make a campground there and may have done so by now) "Free dollars" is my favorite price! Overall, I cannot express what a great experience I had at this place! Absolutely worth the trip if you are heading towards White Sands!

Like I have said before, actually living on two wheels means that you have to be flexible. It also means that you CAN be flexible! Because the day before had not gone as I planned I decided to just skip going to White Sands National Park the next morning. Instead I made a beeline for Imperial Dam LTVA which was only about 600 miles to the West, as I was going to ride the next day with a friend.
Arriving late in the evening I found a spot of ground to set up my camp for a couple of nights so we could do some riding. I woke in the morning to a familiar view. After several months away, I was finally home!

The next couple of days were spent just riding around Yuma and out to El Centro and back, hanging around campfires with familiar faces and just resting up a bit.

Then my friends from Quartzsite AZ asked if I could come up and help them with some "Handi-Man" work so I packed camp and headed North for a nice relaxing ride. I stopped at YPG along the way to check out some Armor.IMG_2410.jpeg

It is hard to appreciate all of the free camping in the Desert Southwest until you get stuck somewhere like the Midwest where there is just not a lot of public land. I was so happy to be able to just grab a patch of desert and call it home for a while!

Quartzite is such a quirky place. You either love it or you hate it! I personally love it because it is what it is. There in no other place I know quite like it.

With a little cash in my pocket and some fuel in the tank I decided to roll back to Imperial and pick up some work at the restaurant. I decided to take a long way home and check out some scenery along the way.

Soon I was back at Imperial Dam ready to set up my Long Term Winter Camp and begin working at the restaurant once again.

Living in your tent camping long term you meet all kinds of people if you are just open to it. I met a couple of life long friends the winter before when I was going through the struggles with my hand. It was so good to be able to reconnect with them. Like me, they are Nomads by choice. While it was not my choice initially, it turned out to be just what I never knew I always wanted!IMG_2447.jpeg

I began getting settled in, working at the restaurant and on my days off running up to Quartzsite to help people I had come to know with whatever handyman stuff they might need. It was like I had never left when I saw the folks who had picked me up and got me going the evening I wrecked my bike the year before. They had become family to me. I felt like I was "Home" again and I was so grateful!

My family invited me out to dinner at one of their favorite restaurants on the Colorado River. I thought this place was just cool ! Out of place in the desert.

I had to replace my riding pants so I took a ride to Phoenix to get a pair. Say what you want about getting KLIM or Leatt but Sedici or another Cycle Gear brand will work just as well for the most part and they will replace ny defective gear without any questions asked! They also have locations all over the place so it is easy to address any issues! (No. I am not endorsing Cycle Gear. This is just my personal experience.)

Gosh it felt great to be back!!!!!!!

Unfortunately as has been my norm, things were about to change rapidly! I had been back less 9 days and I was about to turn right back around and head right back to Kentucky! My lawyer had called and told me that I had an appointment for a second Impairment Rating just a few days out. I was going to have to pack up and hit the road that same day! Good thing I hd been doing a lot of work while I was there!

Open road...he we come!
