TwoTrack's 05 Tundra

MobTuff

Observer
Hey we have similar trucks. This is my second tundra. Never had any issues and I drive around 175 miles a day. Collectivly I've put on 120,000 miles on both trucks. Only bought a second one because the first didn't have 4x4.
Thought I'd show you what the stock wheels compared to some 33's look like. I'd say go 285/75 for sure. I had to do just a tiny bit of trimming of the plastic wheel well corners.
You'll want backspacing like these wheels. They fill out those funky wheel well trimming we have. I'm not on my desktop or id have more pictures.
I have Bilsteins up front and wheelrs add a leaf in the rear in all pictures shown.

Gah! I thought I had decided on 32's with stock wheels! Now you show me this! Your truck looks great, I think that stance is perfect. Are those the wheelers/pro comp wheels on your truck?

On a side note after doing more research I'm thinking that the SAW's may be overkill for my truck. I'm doing more research on both the OME setup and the 5100's with OME/Eibach coils. It's proving to be a quite difficult decision.

They are the procomp wheels. Apparently wheelers doesn't sell the procomps anymore. Here is where I bought them ProComp 7069-6883 Wheels. On my two wheel drive tundra I had camburg upper control arms and their coilovers and it was total over kill in my opinion. I think it only makes sense when you have long travel going on. I'm so much happier with the 5100's. Cheaper more reliable and less maintenance/issues. I'm curius about the OME/Eibach coils matched with the 5100's.

Breather Extension

Okay, time for the first mod to the Tundra. This one is simple and cheap yet very helpful. After dunking the truck in some mud last weekend I decided extending the rear differential breather would be smart.

I ordered the following parts:

Toyota Union Part# 90404-51319 - $7.50
10' 3/8" ID Fuel Hose - $12.18

Here you can see the stock breather on the axle:
breatherbefore.jpg

I removed the stock breather and replaced it with the Toyota union:
union.jpg

Installed the fuel hose over the union and secured with two zip ties: (Forgot to pick up hose clamps.)
unionhose.jpg

I ran the other end of the hose up into the brake light housing and installed the stock breather after cleaning it out. It was filthy and not venting very well. I initially thought that I was going to have to get a new one, but after letting it soak in warm water and using an air compressor to blow it out we were in business.

And there you have it, Tundra Mod #1.

I need to do this to mine asap. I should have done it when I changed the rear diff oil to Amsoil severe gear last week

OME Lift

The following parts were used:

2x 90004 shocks
2x 885x coils
1x Toytec front diff drop
2x 1.5" Deaver AAL
2x 60091 shocks
1x Toytec BPV bracket

I spent my Independence Day with my brothers installing everything. Everything went pretty smooth, the worst part was having to cut out the rear shocks.

Overall I've been very happy with this suspension, its been perfect for our needs. The front settled some and the truck has an ever so slight stock rake now.

Notes: I don't suggest the OME lift with the stock UCA, at full droop the will contact. You might be able to remedy by clocking the spring, regardless though, I had very limited down travel.

Obviously it looks pretty goofy on the stock size highway tires. I had my mind made up to get a set of BFG AT's since they did so well on the Ranger. But I ended up finding a set of Rubicon takeoffs on CL basically brand new. All 5 for $800, I couldn't pass it up. I snatched them up the same day and promptly had them mounted.

The tires are BFG KM's in 255/75r17 and fit the truck nicely I think. I don't have much clearance from the stock UCA so the skinny tires helped. UCA's are on the short list though.

Notes: These were great tires, kinda loud, but great. You MUST rotate religiously!

I wanted to throw this out there for anyone else that might want to use the OME coils.

I ordered all the independent parts from Toytec and had the struts assembled once they arrived. If you're going to get new top plates and isolaters vs using the ones on the truck I highly suggest you pay the extra $100 and let Toytec assemble them for you. You won't save anything by doing it yourself and it's just not worth the hassle.

With that said, if you find that you must do it yourself the isolaters you'll want to use are Energy Suspension 9.6104. These are made for the 1st gen Tacoma (and earlier pickup) but fit the Tundra top plate and sit inside the OME spring perfectly. This also applies if you are using the OME coil with the adjustable Bilsteins.

My truck has 150k miles and spent a few years in the rust belt. I opted for a new top plate and isolaters because of the terrible condition they were already in. In my opinion when changing coils you should change the isolaters but that's just my 2 cents.

Finally made it out with the great weather we've been having and truly put the OME suspension through it's paces. Everything performed flawlessly.
