I'm all for that! Even if a small group from this area got together it would be fun, we're close by, Kenton isn't far, I think there are a few others in this area.

In preparation for a camping trip next year with some friends, I am planning a one-night scouting/pre-running trip to near the Dubuque IA area. I'm looking for an area I can take a small (5 vehicle) group (parents/middle-school kids) next summer, to camp, canoe and/or bike, fish(?), hike, campfire etc.

If anyone is interested in exploring with me, I am planning to go sometime in the 2nd half of September or first weekend of October. It would be fairly short notice, as I want to be sure of clear, warm weather.

I have some leads I will whittle down in the meanwhile: Yellow River, Mines of Spain State Parks... and some private land, with landowner permission.

Later,
Kenton

Frank, that's a cool write up. Thanks for sharing. I missed you surfing, I must have been rock collecting, one of these days I'd like to try it. The next time I go up there I'm going to take my yak and hopefully the waves won't be so rough.

Joash,

I love all your photos! I will be putting more video on-line this weekend and hopefully some more photos. But, you did a great job at capturing the essence of the trip and it's participants. I look forward to next years adventure!

Cheers,
Jenn

If your looking for a good hike consider a drive to Maquoketa Caves.

I used to drive my R/C truck out there on the rocks. The cave system isn't overly huge but its really a must see.

Holy smokes! I've been lurking (mostly) on here for a couple years reading of adventures in the west that I love when suddenly, I see my own backyard! I live 35-40 miles from Maquoketa. (extra points if you know how the locals say it) Send me a PM if you would like. I'll be busy in the field for your prerun though.

Teddi here:
Frank, Great presentation!!!!! and is that your band's music? nice sounds!!!

Yeah that's my old band back in San Diego. Using our music means no copyright issues. Glad you like the songs. We were a group for almost 9 years, those were fun times.

Another video except this ones a crappy solo video. Hard to hold the camera when driving.:smiley_drive: Still captured cool bits and pieces.

At the tail end of the trip I found how to mount the camera perfectly with bungee cords to the head rest.

Wish I would have figured that out earlier, oh well next year I guess.

Anybody have more Gobblers Nob pics? I was really hoping some one caught me on the way down the hill with a tire nearly in the air rounding the corner.

A few more pics for the heck of it..
